How Hot is Your Car?
Fewer cars were stolen in 2005 than in 2004 — 2,625 fewer — but that statistic won’t provide solace to the other 1,235,226 U.S. car owners who were robbed last year. How likely is your car to account for one of these numbers next year? The National Insurance Crime Bureau just released its top 10 list of most-stolen cars, which you can read below. Car thefts rose in the Midwest and the West, while they decreased in the Northeast and South. Surprisingly, only 62.1% of the stolen vehicles were recovered.

My brother had his 1988 (same as an '89) Camry stolen in Chicago. It was parked on the street inbetween an almost new Range Rover and an almost new Jaguar. Car theives have weird tastes I guess. J/K, I know they're easier to get into & hotwire.

Seems to me like some vehicles are easier to break into and hot wire than others, or maybe the drivers are leaving their keys in the ignition switches. Makes it easier for the thief.
These type of surveys never tell the whole truth. It doesn't tell how many drivers left their keys in the car or their doors unlocked.
I assume that cheaper cars appear high on the list because their owners live in high crime areas. Apparently it has a lot to do with what used parts can make the most money for chop shops. My understanding is that things like old Toyota airbags are quite valuable.
most car theifs these days are woried about gettin busted so theyll get crappy lookin car so they wont look obyous or different i sugest try n fit in with the surroundings park in places where there are cameras and allways lock your doors my car almost got broke in to and its broke down i saw the person pullin on my door handle and i slammed my door so they ran car theifs are un predictable so utilize certain things u take for granted like a garage park your car in it car alarms are premative but it scares car theifs they dont want any one knowing they are there
My van was stolen from a METRA train station in Harvey, IL. It was a 1994 Chevy G20 Van. This vehicle had sentimental value as it was my late father's. The vehicle was locked and nothing valuable was inside, except a smoothie machine for a wedding gift. As a result, I drive downtown and pay high parking fees ($18-$26). I was paying $1 to park at the METRA train station in the suburbs.
