2006 L.A. Auto Show: Nissan Sentra SE-R

Ser1

Tonight, Nissan hosted an event near the Los Angeles Convention Center to unveil two new production models the Altima Coupe and the Sentra SE-R Spec-V. The SE-R is the high performance version of the economy sedan we’ve been seeing some guy live in via non-stop commercials. The SE-R — and especially the Spec V — aims at the driver who wants to drive, not live in his car.

The top of the line SE-R Spec V will have a 200 hp 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine while the standard SE-R will feature the exact same engine but most likely a few less horses. Nissan didn’t want to give out that info out tonight but supposedly we’ll hear more tomorrow.

Spec V buyers will also get the option of adding a limited-slip differential and the transmission is a six-speed manual. Stick with just the plain, old SE-R and it comes with a CVT instead. Prices are said to be near the $20,000 mark when it goes on sale in April of 2007. More photos below.

IMPROVEMENTS ARE EVIDENT TO THE EYE. BUT SKIN DEEP IS PERFORMANCE TWEAKS THAT MAKES IT ALL THAT MUCH BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS GENERATION WHICH SUCKED IN REAR-SEAT LEGROOM AND A UNWELCOMING INTERIOR DESIGN WITH CHEAP PLASTICS. NOW ADDING ALL THE TECHNOLOGIES OF THE NEW MODEL (INTELLIGENT KEY, BLUETOOTH) WHERE IS THE NAV? POWER INCREASE NOT SIGNIFICANT BUT APPARANT WHEN COMPARED WITH CURRENT MODEL. HOPED FOR 250+ HP BUT 200 SEEMS SPEEDY ENOUGH. PADDLE SHIFTING FOR THE CVT, AND A SIX SPEED STICK SHOULD KILL RATHER THEN DULL THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT COMPETE WITH THE REST!

whats the matter wit nissan, are they entering a look-a-like contest or something.
1st is it was the versa looks like the Quest
2nd the sentra which looks like the maxima
and now its the altima coupe which is the G35 coupe.
I know these are all nissan products, but does it have to be obvisious.

Can't wait til someone put this with the Si in comparison.
Who wants a CVT anyway?

CVT and sports coupe....sure. Why not get the regular Sentra if you want a CVT? But this is the US after all....

The Sentra's styling is awkward and ungainly. This yellow R version does not help. It looks like a Suzuki Aerio sedan that a highschool decided to spiff by with taillights, rims and yellow paint.

Nissan's styling has been a huge disapointment this year. Especially the Versa, Sentra and Altima (front end) have been disapointing.

Yeah, the new Sentra is sadly styled. Looks too much like a Saturn Ion. Nothing original here, and the Sentra is supposed to be a high-volume car for Nissan. They may need to do a restyle sooner than anticipated.
