Video In Cars a Booming Industry

There’s a lot more to the mobile video industry than just rear-seat DVD systems for the kids. The advances for in-dash screens, navigation systems, live traffic and even satellite dishes are boosting the automotive electronics industry to an estimated $1.1 billion this year. While DVD and navigation systems are still widespread, the mobile satellite dish is probably the ultimate in-car accessory. The dishes mount to the roof of SUVs, much like they do on large RVs and tour buses, and companies like DirectTV beam in their feeds. The price to watch the early games live while you are tailgating? Around $3,000 for the hardware, and that’s before you add on monthly service fees. No wonder it’s a boom time to be in the mobile video business.
