Nissan Recalls 80,000 Muranos, Maximas

Nissanrecalls

Nissan has recalled 70,000 Murano SUVs and 10,000 Maxima sedans built between 2004 and 2006 due to a defective ignition key. Only models with — don’t laugh — Nissan’s “intelligent” keys are affected. These vehicles sometimes won’t start properly, or will start just by moving the steering wheel before the ignition is turned on. That probably surprised a Murano owner or two on their way to work. No injuries have been reported and there’s no word on how Nissan will fix the problem. Owners should check with their local dealer to schedule service.

I stopped buying Nissan products once I personally experience the result of Carlos Ghosens cost cutting abilities. It showed up in my 2001 and 2003 Maxima's. Both were so reliable that they made a Ford Taurus look like a Honda Accord. To bad my 95 and 99 Maxima's were such bullet proof cars, both having over 160k trouble free miles when I sold them.

These days I only trust Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus for quality. To date I have never been disappointed from either.

I'd have to agree with you there. General Motors has a system like this - PassKey - which is a nightmare for a large percentage of owners. (car sometimes won't start, owner makes multiple trips to dealership, clueless dealership replaces every component *except* the PassKey sensor, thousands of $$ later it's still not working)

It's a real shame that Nissan fell into this same pit. Their cars seem to have been very nice in the late 90s and early 2000s. No longer, I guess...

I'd rather deal with nissan having problems than with a Chevy, Ford, or Toyota. Nissan might not be as reliable as Toyota, but they're getting there. Nissan doesn't boast about their products like Toyota does and Nissan has far less recalls than Toyota does!!

Has anyone had problems with ABS brakes.
My 2005 Maxima with 41,000 miles has had problems with the ABS brakes and they replaced the actuator and other parts to the tune of $ 2,200.00, they stated it was not covered by warranty.
Any comments, or remedies for me to get my money back would be appreciated.
thanks

Stop going against Nissan on the irrational!! You probably just cut the brake line yourself or some vandal. Nissan is not the worst car around. My Toyota Corolla has problems with its ABS braking system and the Toyota dealer that wears his pants up so high won't do anything about it. My case is worse than yours.

my 2004 murano has a strange rattle on initial cold start-up coming from the engine that was explained as being normal due to non lubricated part which also exist on the maxima I find this hard to believe.response appreciated.
