Jay Leno's EcoJet Concept: 650 hp on BioDiesel

Jayleno

Jay Leno likes cars. He really likes cars. So much so that GM actually allowed him to develop an original concept for the SEMA show this week in Vegas. The concept is called the EcoJet, and it’s powered by a turbine engine more akin to what submarines use than the standard combustion engines found in most cars. The “eco” part of the name comes from the fact that the 650 horses the engine produces are fueled by BioDiesel and not regular gas. The mid-engine layout is built around a Corvette Z06 aluminum frame and the entire body is made of carbon fiber and Kevlar.

Ecojet

This concept is extreme but we think the EcoJet already looks a bit dated and the Cadillac cues seem like an afterthought. We’ll give Leno a break though since the idea supposedly germinated on the back of a napkin.

Id drive it. While it does look very Caddy like, it would probably be a ton of fun.

I wouldn't kick it out of the garage. Of course I'd have to have Jays income to put it in there. It time to stop developing pipe dreams and start getting serious about concepting clean, efficient, green cars that are going to sell. Maybe they are, and the press is passing them by in favor of showing us bling? I can't spit out the car window on my way in to work without hitting a Prius. The only Fords and Chevy's are the occasional cop cars.

Does the turbine spin a generator to make electricity for electric motors?

Joe

Must be genetic ... GM provides the chasis for someone else to design a car and the finished product comes back as butt-ugly as if GM did it themselves.

Lil'Tom

I have an ominous premonition that I'm looking at Cadillac's next halo car.

M3, No I think the turbine powers the car mechanically. If you don't understand why anyone would put a turbine in a car your not alone. However Chrysler developed turbine technology for years that they wanted to put into production.

I would think if they spend all that time and money developing this thing they would at least take it out to Bonneville or somewhere and see what it can do.

I am still with the cad 600. it seems to more car for the buck.

Looks like a huge paperweight. Come on Jay. This is the funniest thing you have done in a long time. Now we know where all your material was going.

Looks more like a Nissan GTR minus the impractical motor, rims, fins, outdated design and celeb gone wrong thinking.

I would kick it out of the garage and drain the gas...fry grease out of it too.

Warren Cotton

I like the look lines except for the front-end treatment. It looks too heavy for the rest of the car. Of course I can't see what they did with the rear.

This Saturday, at www.SweetChariots.com we'll be airing our LIVE interview with Bernard Juchli, Jay Leno's Chief Engineer of Jay's Big Dog Garage. At SEMA, we discussed the inside details behind what it took to create this "One-Off" concept car. We also have other interviews from inside Jay Leno's garage and interviews with Eddie Paul from DeadLineTV.net and his incredible ability to build awesome vehicles in record time for Hollywood, in the recent "cars" movie and more.

See the only way good things like this happen is if the 1 celebrity who actually cares more than himself help technology become better.

If you know anything about Jay Leno you know that he has two passions: Entertaining and Cars. I feel that he finally merged them together. He has the money to buy (build) the best. Carbon Fiber body, Turbine engine. What car guy wouldn't do the same thing if he had the money. The car is entertaining as well. Its nice to look at and oh... to drive it would be a blast. Kuddos to Jay for this car. Can't wait to see him design a 4X4 that climbs trees!

i think the car is very very nice, but what is the price tag? people seem to forget that chrysler built a turbine car back in the 60's, oh yah, i saw it, i touched it,i rode in it!
let's get back to reality, i own a diesel 3500 dually "toy". i got real interested in biodiesel when the price hit $3.50+/gal. the manufacturers of the engines and the injection systems scream if you go beyond 5% bio.95%petro mix, what good is it?
hey jay, enjoy your car, while the rest of us suck on it!

bought the laptop on March from a BestBuy and it broke on April. The video screen got corrupted/jumbled and didn't work anymore. I sent it back to HP, through BestBuy since HP has a 1 year warranty on it. When in line at BestBuy to send it back, I found out there were 2 other people waiting in line to send their HP Laptops (the same model I had) for the exact same problem!
HP sent it back and refused to fix it because they said the machine was "dirty". How can "dirty" be a deal-breaker?!!! I had the laptop in a normal desk setup, it didn't get any more dirty than anything else around it. Saying they won't fix something because it's "dirty" gives them card-blanch to refuse service on ANYTHING! Basically their warranties mean NOTHING!!! Don't buy from this company - they make faulty equipment that they refuse to service for any reason or no reason at all.
