GM's Built-In Bike Rack

Flexfix

General Motors is doing some cool things in Europe. Their Opel line of cars features a “Flex-Fix” system that offers a perfectly hidden bike rack. The system is shown at left on the new Opel Antara compact SUV widely believed to be the basis for the next generation Saturn Vue here in the states. There is no word on whether GM will bring the Flex- Fix system here and it would probably be an expensive option if they did. However, this slick bike rack would fit in well with the Saturn buyer profile and shows that there is plenty of room left for auto innovation.

Sherman

That SUV looks so nice compared to the crap that GM pushes out here in the United States. Why can't GM pursue their European policies here in the states?

I think Sherman hit the nail on the head. Ford is having the same problem. Why can't the domestics make cool cars here? Hopefully this Opel makes it to the States as the next Saturn Vue with the bike rack! That feature is freakin' ingenious.

Well GM is bringing in European stuff to their Saturn line. Mainly this SUV and the eventual Ion replacement will probably come from Europe.

Gm knows global is the way to go. Ford doesn't have as large a number of mainstream global holdings like GM does with Opel and Holden (supposedly turning their new Commodore into a new Pontiac RWD sedan) so it is looking at more platform sharing than outright rebadging like GM.

Yeah, don't worry folks. This is the next Saturn Vue; let's just hope the bike rack feature makes it to the Vue!

That is cool! Hope that option make it to the US.

gm does use this stuff in the united states. The cadillac Catera was just an Opel with Cadillac badges

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks kinda like this: http://www.chevrolet.com/equinox/

Ever see the UK Ford Focus? Funny that the domestic crap, looks like....crap.

Hmm, can that be adapted to hold a dirt bike? Would be nice to not have to trailer my Mini Bike.

I think they still have to develop something that could hold a dirt bike. The weight of a bike is very different as that of a dirt bike.

There is a rack alternative until this you can get your hands on this great looking design.

That is a pretty cool feature. Maybe if GM had more in the way of meeting customer demands they wouldn't be in the situation they are in now.

There was a time when the only small sized motorcycles also now known as pit bikes were made by Japanese companies such as Honda and Kawasaki. In the past few years these pit bikesparts have become more and more popular, which has created quite a demand for them.
