Ford Says Goodbye to Focus Wagon

2005focuswagon

Reports surfaced today via Ford’s Fleet website that the Ford Focus Wagon would no longer be built after December. We just received confirmation from Ford that this will be the case for all shoppers. The Focus Wagon made up just 8% of Focus sales and the company is directing its focus — no pun intended — at the more popular two-door and four-door hatchbacks, along with the four-door Focus sedan.

The Focus is due for a refresh in the 2008 model year but a full redesign is still a few years off.

If you’re interested in buying a Focus Wagon there’s plenty of time left. Expect the cars built through December to be on lots through the first few months of next year.

The current Focus is not as nice as the one that debuted in 2000. The interior, in particular, is worse in the recent models. I suppose Ford thought that it wasn't insulting enough not to give us the new European Focus, and that we didn't even deserve one as nice as the one they sold in 2000... Also, Advancetrac stability control was available until about 2002, but is no longer offered.

Segfault,
I looked through the archived specs and overviews of the Focus from 2001 until now. Advancetrac was offered as an option in 2001 and was then phased out. I'm guessing it was not a popular option or ford would have continued to offer it. Not many compacts domestic or import offer stability control.

I have to agree with Segfault about the quality of the new Focus compared to the original. I have a 2001 Zx3 which has been and still is immpeccable (part luck, part regular maintanence), so when the need for a little more space arose I naturally tried out a four door. All of the soft touch material on the doors are gone and the interior as a whole looks and feels cheap. My '01 has never once felt cheap in my opinion, even compared to cars that cost way more. The new CEO at ford needs to send the European version across the pond and Ford will have a hit on their hands again.

I agree with you segfault. The new focus interior is not anywhere near as nice as the original focus interior. I had an 01 Focus sedan with a 5 speed and the zetec engine. Great little car to drive. The new focus doesn't look as good inside or out, and while it once was the class leader in style, fun to drive and space, it has now become an also ran due to Fords negligence. What is going on at Ford?
