Tiger Woods to Launch Buick Enclave

Tigerwoods

Buick finally has a product worthy of superstar golfer Tiger Woods’ full attention. Sure, the best golfer in the world has starred in ads for the Lucerne sedan and other Buicks since he signed on as spokesman a few years ago, but never has he taken part in the launch of a new vehicle. That will all change at the Los Angeles auto show in November when Woods will introduce the production version of the Buick Enclave.

The Enclave was a stunner as a concept in Detroit in January 2006, and the production version — which will go on sale in the middle of the golf season next summer — is vitally important to the Buick brand. General Motors is also getting the most out of its high priced pitchman, now no journalist will want to miss this introduction.

For those who can't wait til next Golf season, look for deals on the models the Enclave will be displacing: GM is currently offering $4,000 cash rebates on the 2006 Rendezvous and Rainier. There's even $1,500 on each of the 2007 versions.

Tiger endorsing Buick is proof that everyone has a price. GM should shelve the entire division as it's more than run it's course. I still laugh when I think of the commercials comparing a Buick LeSabre to a Lexus ES300.

Buick Enclave has a 6-Speed transmission which should give a more smooth drive and also a 4 % increase in fuel economy. But its also much longer than Rendezvous and Rainier. But its sales will depend on the gas prices at that time.

Chris,
While the old Buick's were nothing great, the new Lucerne is not that bad and I believe is the one you've seen compared to a Lexus> And while I agree that's a stretch the new Enclave looks like a true winner. If they nail the interior it'll be a huge seller.
And remember they cost less than Lexus and now have longer warranties.

Dave,
You nailed it when you stated, "the new Lucerne is not that bad..." Problem is Americans have a choice and they are choosing quality. I agree with Chris, the Buick name plate should be 'shelved'.

The fact is Buick is one of GM's better performing brands. Perception is that no one buys them. But for certain age groups and demographics it is still a top brand. And while I think lots of cars compete well with the Lucerne it does have certain advantages when it comes to price/value versus foreign competition. If the production Enclave looks like the concept and the interior is as improved as we've seen across GM's latest vehicles it'll be a huge hit and could be to Buick what the CTS was to Cadillac.

The average age of Buick owners has dropped from 78 to 65 because of the introduction of models that appeal to younger families. Will the age drop to the average of AARP members-58? Would you rather see Tiger's wife instead? These questions and more answered 'ere long.

I Have four kids ages 4 10 11 and 14. I have a town and country now. They fight constantly over who will sit where. We actually have weekly assigned seats. The enclave will save my mind and my voice over these stupid seat fights as each one of these seats are great. I would do a commercial for this car with just that concept. I am putting myself on the waiting list.
