More on the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Nitrosxt

Dodge released a slew of new images of the upcoming 2007 Dodge Nitro in its three trims: the entry level SXT (shown above), mid-level SLT and top of the line R/T. In the latest release, we also learn that the R/T’s V-6 engine has gained horsepower from earlier figures, bringing the total to 260 hp. The SXT and SLT’s engines remain rated at 210 hp. While we had seen plenty of shots of the R/T before now, the other trims hadn’t been shown off, nor had the Nitro's interior features, like the sliding cargo floor and entertainment systems. The SXT sports rather large, plastic molded body panels and bumpers that may not thrill buyers shelling out $19,225 for the entry-level model.

When the Nitro goes on sale next month it will feature Chrysler’s new MyGig hard drive-based multimedia system already announced as an option in the upcoming Chrysler Sebring. Click below for more photos.

The styling is different. I'm not fond of the grille, but otherwise like the squared-off look. Sort of like a smaller Commander. At least they didn't put a useless third-row in it like Toyota did with the RAV4.

I think that the new Dodge Nitro has a very appealing look and is equipped with the right size engines to make it a true success story. I am amazed at the great job Daimler-Chrysler did at transforming a Jeep Liberty into the new Nitro. Daimler-Chrysler may share platforms, engines, and other components, but the average person would never know it. As a matter of fact, it would take some extensive research to figure it out. This is something that GM and Ford need to learn. Ford and GM seem to think that a different grill on an existing vehicle makes it a whole new vehicle. Daimler-Chrysler has created a great SUV.

Chrysler is the Queen of Rebadging (Ford is the King of Rebadging) --- (durango & Aspen) (town and country, caravan) (sebring and stratus) (charger and the new dodge sedan that was on here last week) (nitro and the new jeep liberty) and when plymouth was around, please, do not make me list all of those. ALL automakers have rebadged items to make them cost efficient, so lets not pick on just GM and Ford...rice burners do it too!
