2007 Acura MDX Revealed
Automakers are not kind to bloggers and automotive journalists. More than one has made Sept. 1 the day they reveal all their new models for the next year. Most of the changes from 2006 to 2007 are minor, but the all-new 2007 Acura MDX is a remarkably different-looking vehicle than the one it replaces.
Outside it’s easy to see the differences between the two model years. What was once one of the most unassuming luxury SUVs on the market is now an aggressive player. Inside there are, of course, three rows of seats, a new dashboard and a different interface for various controls, including navigation.
Mechanically the MDX also features Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. Every time I type that it makes me laugh. OK, back to the rest of the specs: There’s a 3.7-liter V-6 producing 300 hp under the hood, matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. This is a huge bump from the outgoing model’s 253-hp 3.5-liter. Mileage comes to a respectable but not mind-blowing 17/22 mpg city/highway.
Traction control, stability control, ABS, side curtain airbags for three rows, active front head restraints, driver and front passenger knee bolsters and side airbags are all standard.
No price has been announced and expect the MDX to arrive at dealerships later this fall. Check out an array of exterior and interior photos below.

My wife and I just test drove one of these at an Acura special event. We ended up placing an order as it beats our Ford SUV hands down. Come to think of it, it also is better than any General Motors vehicle we have ever owned. I don't see the day when Ford or GM can build something like this. My business partner once said that outside of the Vette, anyone who spends more than twenty-five grand on an American car or truck is a fool. I think he's right. Has anyone seen that ugly new Camero? Why would General Motors even bother to bring that thing back?
Did anyone else get a case Isuzu Axiom deja vu when they saw the front of this?
What about the Envoy Denali $37,500 loaded.
Or should I buy the 07 mdx

What does that mean?
Why is Acura trying to look like the Lexus 400h or earier Lexuses. Yet they should incorporate laser assisted cruise control, and powerlift tailgate, and an optional hybrid version.
Jordan,
I own a 98 Toyota 4Runner, and I understand what you mean by superiority in terms of total quality, but let’s be fair, without competition the automotive advancements we have today would simply not be. Let’s all here hope that GM, Ford, Mitsubishi and other struggling automakers survive by continuing to compete to bring us the best products possible. Their battle for survival can only mean good things for the consumers, Chrysler did it in the 80’s and Nissan and Hyundai did it in the 90’s. It’s still possible.
doesn't that look like that new suzuki grand vitara?
sboy,
I think it looks more similiar to the Subaru Tribeca than anything else. As long as Acura does not make it look like a Chevy Equinox (most horrific thing I have ever driven) I think they'll be able to sell every single one.
Can anyone venture a guess at the 2007 MDX price range? Does 41-48k sound about right?
I would like to know where I can take one of these for a test drive. Even the dealerships cannot tell me when it will be there or where I can go to take a drive. It if holds up as the previous MDXs and is as comfortable as the 06 MDX and 07 RDX, then I'd order one today.
Pete,
Expect it to be out later this fall, late october early november.
Production already started at the Canadian Plant so assuming it will be in the showroom next month! Cant wait to test drive it!!
We test drove the RDX 2007 and loved it, but wanted something bigger for the family. We test drove the 2006, but wanted more options therefore when seeing the 2007 MDX, we knew that was the car we wanted. We are planning to get the sport package blk with blk interior. It is going to be pretty sweet I think. The acura is very smooth when test driven. Will it be out on the 17th of October? I need to purchase this car before the baby arrives :)!
Just as I was deciding the new MDX was my next SUV, BMW had to release pics of their 7 seater X5! What's a guy to do?
We’ve been covering the new MDX SUV pretty intensely this week, and Acura has just handed us the most significant news we could report: pricing. The base MDX — which has plenty of standard features for a “base” model — will start at $39,995. That’s pretty impressive in the full-size luxury SUV segment, especially since it comes standard with leather, a sunroof and all-wheel drive. We also learned that the MDX will arrive at dealerships Oct. 17.
Does the 2007 Acura MDX have a rear window that is functional, ie, it goes up and down? Seems that very few have an operable rear window, only Toyota 4Runner has it best I can tell. gotta get the dog some fresh air :-)
The all new MDX is the best thing to hit the luxury suv market in a long time. If you compare the prices for other suvs in this class versus what you actually get options wise the MDX beats them every time. My wife and I shopped and compared the BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes and we can proudly say we have a new MDX in our driveway. Thanks Acura for the great job on this vehicle.
And thanks Chapman Acura in Tucson AZ for making it an easy and enjoyable experience. We will refer everyone we know.
Hey Paul. Do you work for Acura or do you just like to advertise for them? Or maybe you work for Chapman Acura.
As for the Las Vegas guy, you must think it's funny to post derrogatory comments about entire cities on the internet. Can I subcribe to your newsletter? Perhaps I can read comments about other cities that suck your small balls.
bowrider,
i removed the las vegas guys comment. sorry missed it earlier. As for Paul, I'm hoping he had a great experience and is being honest about it and not advertising. We want to hear from buyers although prefer they don't mention dealers by name.
The MDX is a very solid vehicle in the segment and shaves quite a bit off the price of a new X5.
Yes, I purchased the 2007 MDX before driving it, I was able to purchase a Black with Parchment Interior with the Premium Package, NAV & DVD System, but not the sports package. I opted for the 19" Tires and Chrome like Rims. Acura still gives you the origional 18's also, Acura should have a trade up policy.
I wish I had taken the MDX Sports Package for the different rims, the 19's look good, but the ride is a little hard, the tires seem to follow the uneavenness of the road, so hold on to the steering wheel!
Payed $3,000 more for the Rims and Tires, so I could have got the Sports for $2,000 more, would not do that again. The SUV has many fine features, had a Denali last, and it is different, but there are still many improvements that Acura could make! The dash is nice and gaget like, but it is hard to find things, to cluttered together. The rear lacks visability when backing, the backup camera is nice, but needs side views as well when parking next to other suv's, backing up is slow.
Gas Milage for me is 19 all around but 22 to 24 on the highway with 300 hp, good! Whish it was a 30 average!
The reclining back seats are great! Much better than the sitting up position! Don't use the 3rd row at all, have the cover on top, What do you do out of town when you may want the seats?
Mine was more costly, no discount, Trailer Hitch, Matts, Door gards, Rims, Tires, Roof Rack and more cost $56,000. I gues sclose to a BMW X5, just came out! We'll check back with ya!
I just got a brand new 2007 Acura MDX for my Valentine & Birthday. The car is awesome...It comes with Sport & Entertainment package. My husband told me that he got a very good deal. I did take a look at the Lexus RX before but I think the Acura is best.
I just ordered the 07 MDX with Tech&Entertainment (was crazy in driving a Jaguar VDP before it).
Have a friend with one of the very first MDXs and they say they have never had to pay for any types of repairs before or after warranty - they're at 80K miles.
Another friend who got her original MDX way back when also chose a new 07MDX, she's very particular, checked out all the other cars: BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, etc...and said there was no other car that gave you everything for the price & reliability and so she stuck with the MDX as well.
And, another friend had bought a new Eddie Bauer Expedition in the fall - she traded it in for the new 07MDX in December.
Maybe I'm naive...but I told my husband I'd be fine with either the MDX or RDX - but for size, we chose the MDX.
I can't wait!!!
Just traded in my ‘01 MDX for the new’ 07 MDX on Friday, and put 1000 miles on it over the weekend. Four of us jumped in the car, put on a movie, used the nav, and just went for a long road trip.
The Good: Everyone arrived feeling good - no vibration issues, and only a little wind noise. The ride got smoother as we went. The nav is awesome, quick and responsive (although, 'she' got a little naggy every once in a while). Lots of space - everything fit inside, and we had 3 bikes on a rack on the tow hitch. Oh yeah - lots of cup holders!
The Bad: You have to set everything up separately for each driver - radio stations, phone book, nav system locations. It is dependent on what key fob you use to unlock the door (the car recognizes the first person). It took hours to set everything up.
The Ugly: Mileage was BAD - averaged 17.3 highway. Gonna take it in for a check up. Not much leg room for the front seat passenger; older people might find it cramped for long drives. The glove box dips down low into the leg area. the Interior lights are BRIGHT and blinding when you are driving at night - put a small flashlight in the middle storage area. ...and word of warning - don't let your kids take the DVD controller out of the dock, then step all over in the back seat... or drop it out of the car when making a pit stop at the nearest restroom.
does any one who owns a 2006 mdx, have experienced any steering vibrations at 70/80 mph, would really like to hear from you.
I bought this 2007 MDX, in November when it first came out. Nothing but problems with the Auto Power Liftgate not working properly, either using the remote to power activate it or manual control. It constantly goes into fault mode. The dealer has tried to correct the problem by resetting the codes but the problem seems to be in the software design.
Also how about Acura fixing the rear seat heater controls so they don't run down the battery.
The rear camera lens shows too much distortion and does offer any guidelines when backing into a parking space esp when other cars are on either side. They should have looked at Infinity's screen.
I brought a 2007 MDX an upgrade from a 2003 MDX and before I took ownership of the vehicle, it would not start, dead battery so I thought. I brought the vehicle in October of 2006 and by Feb of 2007 I had a new vehicle because the vehicle ended up at the dealer approx 12 times. The problem was the barttery kept dying. They thought it was something I was doing but we never found anything. Plus, this problem started before I took ownership. Yes the very day I brought the vehicle the battery had to be recharged so I could go home. They finally deamed the vehicle as a lemon and they gave me a brand new vehicle in February. Problem is, for no apparent reason I am having the same problem with the new vehicle. No one can find what the problem is. We are starting to think I have some sort of electrical draining power in me behind. Go figure. I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem with the battery dying. As a note, every test you can think of was performed on the vehicle. They changed the Nav Sys, the radio, a computer chip, and a partridge in a pair tree. Still keeps dying. Somebody just shoot me! Please help.
I was quickly reading some of your comments of the new MDX. And noticed some concerns with battery failures.
I'm a technical adviser with an Acura dealer up here in Canada, and we've found 2 issues regarding the excessive battery draw.
Most Acura dealers now have the fix, but if you need to insist, mention there may be a problem with either the driver's or passengers power door lock switch. Or simply a missing or blown fuse for the rear entertainment system.
Hope this helps!
Don't you guys think the front panel is "too busy" looking. It looks like I'm operating a 747 or something?
Also, don't you think it looks better with the roof rack than not?

2007 Acura MDX Recalls
Recalls can vary widely in nature and importance, and whether it comes down to paint chipping, faulty seats, or wheels that fall off, we’ll know. It’s free to fix, so there’s nothing to lose, and since recalls can give some indication of quality, it’s not a bad idea to look up 2007 Acura MDX recall data on cars you’re thinking of buying.

I wrote earlier and asked if anyone was experiencing problems with the new MDX in the area of battery drainage. I am looking for some help. The dealer doesnot want to deal with me anymore. I received a new vehicle and the old one was a lemon. I am going through the same problem with the new vehicle. The battery keeps dying. I have has this new vehicle since February and it has already died on me four times. I really don't know what to do. I am tempted to cut my loses and get rid of the vehicle, but its such a nice vehicle. And it drives extreemly well. What am I doing wrong. Please Help!!
I bought a 2007 MDX for my wife recently and it has not started 6 times. I have taken it to the dealer and they tried everything (or so they say) and found nothing wrong. They say everything is normal but it continues to have the same problems. Anyone have any advice?
Has the company figured out what is the problem with the electrial system?
Thank you, I am thinking to buy a mdx but do not want any battery problems.
I have a 2005 MDX and have had the same battery problems as several of you. I finally had the battery replaced yesterday, but the dealer charged me for it and I am pretty upset about that. I am not surprised to find out there is a systemic problem somwhere. My problems started in Nov 06 after owing the car for 15 months. By May 07 the entire nav/audio system would go out everytime I plugged something into the accessory charger. They replaced that charger and told me everything would be fine. Since then I have had to jump the thing at least 5-6 times. I don't dare plug anything in the accessory plugs. Does anyone know how to get Acura's attention to this problem? I am worried that it will take an electrical fire before the problem gets serious attention.
Thanks.
I purchased an 2007 acura mdx back in january. The same day i drove it off the lott, the car had a pull to the right. After 2 wheel alignments, one at the dealership, and another at goodyear, i still have the same problems. And now i have panels that are popping out by the glovebox and driverside of the truck. As much as these vehichles cost, i didnt expect to be going through this. Fed up as i was, i even tryed trading already, but many dealers say they cant give me close to what its valued by kelly blue book.
I have had the 2007 mdx for a year now. Fro the most part I like it but a few nagging things are starting to irritate me to where I want to trade it in. Based on the other comments, it appears Acura has some work to do with their electrical system.
1. The side panel by the glove caompartment has come lose. Not a big deal...they replaced it and it has been fine.
2. The driver seat moves on it's rails and also feels like the springs pop alot. It is getting very annoying and driving me nuts!
3. The radio does not hold it's settings.....may hold them for a day or 3 weeks....there is no consistancy and they can't duplicate the issue.
We have a 2007 Acura MDX with entertainment and tech pkg. and are having trouble with the NAV system. It tells us to enter highway south when we are going north. This happened a few times on a trip from florida to maine. We were paying attention so we didn't turn the wrong way, but it shouldn't do that for what the car and system costs. Anyone else having similar troubles?
I am sufferring with my 2007 mDX. It has been pulling to the right since I got it. It has been to the dealer 6 times and they have done many things but it still does it. I don't want to reveal to acura, the dealer any other spy on my situation but I will try to explain it to help anyone else with the same problems. It shuttered at 65 mph the first time I hit it with less than 100 miles on the vehicle. They have replaced right wheel bearings, then left strut, then alignment with wheel balance. It is scheduled for another repair shortly. The steering wheel clicked left/right. They claimed to have fixed it but when I picked it up as I drove out of dealership it was still there. I brought it back and they then fixed it with a corresponding service bulletin. The key fob was dead 5 days after I got the MDX. They claim to have replaced battery but it died a few months later. Now it has been replaced with a new one and a corresponding service bulletin. The MDX has been making noise under the vehicle and getting worse since day one. A service consultant drove it and heard all the noise. There is a new service bulletin that supposedly just came out that will fix this this. Meanwhile a new problem came up last night. The display between the speedo and tach was flickering and every time I turned the radio off it just went right back on again. This went on 4 times and I turned the car off. Then back on and it stopped?? Besides this when you close any door you hear something under the rear of the MDX moving making a noise??. Again this is since day one. I have only had this (7) months. I got it August 2007. Should have kept my old one. I should have maybe waited and got a 2008. The pain in the a.. of having to keep bringing it in for service s..ks. The key fob dying was really a pain because both times I was on a family trip. I really needed the remote opening of the tailgate. I am disabled. The only reason I got this thing was for the remote power lift gate. I liked my previous one just fine. Yes it handles better and has more power. Sure the nav and entertainment system is great. But the Nav disc is (2) years old. It is far from current. I pull up to gas stations that were torn down over a year ago. Many other problems as well. Squeaking in the dashboard, poor fit of plastic trim. I think it is poorly made as compared to the 2004-2006 Models.
To all the others having issues with dead batteries, do you have the entertainment package? My battery dies everytime it sits a day or two without being driven. I've taken to the dealers several times and they have no idea. I know people with the same year MDX but do not have entertainment package and they have never had an issue with their battery. Just trying to nail down the problem.
My wife has had two MDX vehicles both with electrical problems, 03 Touring and 05 Touring w/navi. The 03 had problems with the radio controls on the steering wheel, had repairs made multiple times, finally replacing the whole steering wheel. Problem developed again later on so gave up and traded for 05. Have had battery go dead several occasions and problems with ONSTAR unit. Both items had to finally be replaced. Either Acura does not want to admit problems or the dealer is incompetent, maybe both?
gah! Am i the only one that notices the unnessesary amounts of wood trim on the front dash? Theres like 10 pounds of it. T like wood in moderation, but not that much. Same deal in the Navigator. They just try to overdo it.
I have a 2005 MDX with battery drain issues. I hooked up voltmeter to test the drain on the battery. Then started pulling fuses. I found that the (FI Backup) circuit consistantly was drawing excessive current - about 200ma for a total of 240ma draw. When I pulled out the 7.5a fuse, the current would drop to about 40ma, which I this is about normal. I say consistantly, because it was a draw most of the time, but occasionally it did not draw current. I have not found a pattern. I believe the (FI Backup) fuse is for the fuel injection and not the backup sensors or lights because the vehicle will not start without it. Any ideas why this circuit would remain active with the engine off and key removed?
dead battery / electrical issue!
I have a 2007 MDX with sports and nav (tech) package. Drove it with NO problems at all for the first year. And then the battery keeps draining. I keep having to jump the car and bought it to the deal 4x's already. No one seems to know whats wrong with it. Supposely they did a draw test and everything came out normal. They even replaced the battery once already too. HELP!!
SRW!!!! I am having the exact same problem, we figured out that the FI backup fuse was drawing. Did you ever solve your problem or does anyone have any input?
I have a 2005 MDX & love it. But 2 days ago the trip computer, radio & charger plug went completely dead! I initially thought it was the fuse. But that looks fine. Has anyone had that problem?
