Update: More 2007 Mini Info

OK. BMW’s U.S. press site has more information we can tell you about the 2007 Mini Cooper. We also wanted to show you a side-by-side of the new Mini (left) next to the outgoing 2006 (right).

There are still no concrete mileage figures, but the updated press release says the new engines improve mileage “by up to 20%.” Now, don’t go crazy and think that’s across the board. We’re guessing that’s highway mileage on the base Cooper. But that still brings that figure from 36 mpg to 43 mpg. That would be significant. Otherwise the company mentions a 12.5% increase in mileage. If that’s across the board it’s very impressive and will make the Mini Cooper even more desirable in the newly gas-conscious U.S.

The release also says we should expect the 2007s to arrive at dealerships before the end of the year.

I like the new look better: The fog lamps get bigger, the turn indicators are more easily seen. The only thing I don't like about it is that it seems to make the Mini less distinctive and more similar to most cars on the road today. On the other hand: 43 mpg and I'm there!

It's great to see that -- given five years of development time -- Mini was able to find yellow turn-signal lenses.... But I like the styling as it is, so I'm not really complaining.

I think it's too soon to be restyled, fortunately it's pretty mild. It's a plus for used Mini buyer since it'll help lower the price. I wonder if the engine area has grown, maybe I'll wait for 300+hp V6 Super Mini???

I like this model.

Oh no. I prefer the previous model. The new model looks narrower, both vertically and horizontally, at least from the front. It had more of a 50's rounder, friendlier look before. It had that special something that some friends and I were remarking about recently. We remember what it was like to enjoy just taking a ride because of the smorgasbord of really stimulating car styles. I am so sorry that the mini is going the route of the other too sleek, too similar, too uninteresting cars of today. Pls take it back to where it was next year. My goodness, we have too many boring things today, everything is too sanitized.
