New Camaro Officially Official

Camaro3

Monday we brought word that GM would bring back the Camaro based on the 2006 concept car shown here. Today the company released an official proclamation stating in black and white that there will be a new Camaro.

“Dear sports car fans: General Motors heard you loud and clear.

GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner announced today that GM will build an all-new version of the Chevrolet Camaro sport coupe.”

The coupe is said to be “almost identical to the concept” and will begin production in late 2008 and go on sale in early 2009. That means you can plan your car shopping for the next three years accordingly. And to further fuel the anticipation, GM has released another series of photos of the concept car. We think this makes the Camaro — unofficially — the most photographed concept car of all time. You can find more images below.

Yessss! I've been waiting for this for like three months now! they have made the right decesion, this will deffintely compete with the mustang and Challenger as long as they don't change a thing.

But it is UGLY!

Frank

The gold bow-tie has become the logo of white-trash rednecks. Now with the 'new' Camero they finally have another reason to take out another loan on their double-wide.

kevin

It's just plain ugly. This model will stay on the market for 2-3 years, the deservingly go away like the current T-Bird.

I don't understand the ugly comments (some here even utter them). I thought it was a well executed concept and looks good on the road. It'll be slimmer in final production and I'm guessing the tail lights will be altered. Otherwise it should be very similar to what we see here.

Ross

If you guys would take a step back and take a good look at the detail you might acually have a stable opinon unlike some others. I think this car is one of the greatest camaros designed, good job GM!!!

BOBBY

What can I say..... ugly guages, big ass!!!!
Why is gm always showing up late to the party. Gm will probably stick a wimpy 3.8 pushrod in this thing. or a DOD V8. But it will be AUTOMATIC since they cant make a stick shift to sve there lives.

Bad Angus

There seems to be a lot of trash-talking from the mullet-haters in here.

For my part (mullet-free for almost 20 years), this thing is starting to grow on me. When the first concept came out, I thought the Challenger and the production 05/06 Mustang blew it away. Now I'm not so sure. I guess it will all depend on whether they make a Z-28 or SS version that's worthy of the badge.

Bobby is right tho. It'll need a stick. They should partner with Hurst or something.

Carl

The gauges alone prove to me that GM is still retarded when it comes to design. Who in their right mind would approve of such a guady set-up!? I would be amazed if this thing is still in production after 3 years. The fact that it won't be available with a stick says everything.

KNIGHTRIDER

The car looks great but GM is too late. By the time it is available nobody will care anymore. They need to learn how to get high demand cars like this one to the market in a years time.

Chris

For those of you who comment on the fact that there probably wont be a stick...just look at the pictures of the concept...IT IS A STICK...maybe after you do your research your opinion will be valued...until then, keep your mouth shut.

BILL

FROM THE OWNER OF A 70SS PURCHASED 10/70 & A 02 SS/SLP WEEKEND RIDE WITH 20K, THE NEW ONE IS 95-99% GREAT! FOR $$ THEY NEED THE ENGINE SIZE OPTIONS TO KEEP ALL OF US IN OUR BUDGET, BUT GAGE CLUSTER, SHOULD BE LOOKED AT AGAIN, IT LOOKS A LITTLE TO HOLLYWOOD TO KEEP SALES AT MAX..

Ed A

My only request is to keep the new Camaro lean, taut, aggressive, agile and small almost like a hybrid Porsche Carrera 2+2. It would be very nice if the new Camaro can be a muscle car and/or king of the hill car. Keep it light to achieve a good fuel economy. Thanks-Ed

Mary-Lynn

Yahooooo! I can't wait. I have a 1968 and this would complete my collection!

Steve

I'll just say that I'm glad I went with the Mustang for my first car and the car I will stay loyal to, because the Camaro just seems to struggle and it's sales will probably look just like it's predecessor. Sometimes it's just best to be the first mover. Good job Iacocca! Keep up the good work Ford!

Russell

The new Camaro concept isn't bad, but Chevy could've done a lot better. The car looks pretty aggressive, but it looks like a cross between retro and modern where something went really wrong. Before the Camaro goes into production for '09, I hope Chevy works on the styling to make the car look like a Camaro should.

Curtis

This is the most beautiful version of the Camaro yet. The retro style is absolutely gorgeous. I hope they don't change a thing. Let's hope they price it the same as the Mustang and not like the Charger.

Tim Hart

I was 4 years old when I watched my older brother drive off ti Viet Nam in his 1969 Camaro. I am currently serving in Iraq in Bagdad, when I return I will purchase this vehicle and relive the memory of my brother coming home as I will. I just hope its available in the green with white rally stripes.

amber

I love the style of the car and how retro it looks. I think you all have done and outstanding job on rebuilding the 2009 Camaro. And also not all rednecks live in double wides and for the person who said that. What do you have against them? Have you ever meet anyone like that? They are the most nice and respectful people and they are just like you and I. You don't like it when people call you a city slicker do you???? Well, anyways I love the Caramo, I owe a Z28 Caramo 1994 model. And I hope some of the colors will be speedway blue. I hope to purchase one when they come out. CONGRADULAIONS THE CAR LOOKS GREAT!!!!!!!

john sally

Hey Frank its CAMARO, whos the white trash that can not spell

Chris Nickl

I wasn't really all that into the design when i first saw the concept. I have always liked the camaro since i was litte, i'm now 21. I currently own an 02SS as my weekend car. I think it needs a little bit of tweaking, but i will most likely buy one when it comes out.

John

Its retro styling actually looks very well executed, especially compared to the horrible job Ford did on the new mustang. I cant even look at the new mustang's nose. You are crazy if you think GM is actually going to production with those gauges.

Fey

The sickest car EVEr
Mustangs are going down the drain with this one.
CANT WAIT!!

Nancy

Chevy did an outstanding job of exterior design, and for the most part with the interior, except for those lousy gauges. Got to remember that it's a "show/comcept" car and those gauges probably looked like a good idea for the show circuit. I'm sure they'll give us something more acceptable in final production trim. The big trick is to keep the thing close enough to the concept car. This is something that Ford really botched with the Mustang. They came out with a concept car that looked great and the production Mustangs are worthy of vomit! Let's see what GM delivers in '09.

matt

down right UGLY!!!!!! gauges. otherwise one awsome car!!!

not a redneck

To amber: it's spelled congratulations!

To john sally: you need to learn how to end your sentences, perhaps with a period.

Frank is partially right though. Here in the big city, it seems that I see a lot of rednecks (or former rednecks) driving a good ol' GM product. YEEHAW!

Average American

What was once a dream in my mind now sits in living color on this site, the new Camaro. For those muscle car lovers of the old days, this is the next chapter. It is a stylish looking car that demands the road like a 300M or a Magnum, has the retro look of the Mustang(although I think better captured here) and hopefully will outperform the Charger and Challengers. I want the first picture of a Challenger, Mustang and Camaro sitting next to each other in a parking lot with just the words "'7" under them, right next to a threesome from 1967. Would be a great tribute to the innovators of yesterday that their designs are still fueling our imagination today...

jeremy gish

i dont care how everone else feels but i want the 1st yellow with black stripes to hit oklahoma city streets this is the 1st camaro ive wanted cents i sold my 69 8 years ago when my son was born if gm doesnt make this car i will never buy another gm agine and i have allways had gm cars and or trucks my 1st car was a 72 camaro . dear gm dont make me buy a toyta please .

Anybody that says this car is ugly is obviously a fan of bland tasteless styling. (i love camaros)

I like camaros too but this "thing" hardly looks anything like one.. I like the fact GM is doing something new and it doesnt even look bad. But interior needs some work......ok well revamped completely. I personnally think the Challenger looks way better as its still oldschool-muscle-looking and has that modern retro look. But thats just my opinion.

camaro girl

absolutly dont like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!it dont even resinble a camaro, i wont be buying one!

jimmy m.

im sry, but im saving up my pennies for this one!!....okay the gauges might look dumb, but im sure once u drive it, it wont even matter..(i think it looks awesome). how can ppl say that it doesnt look like a camaro when u dont know what gm's view of a camaro is..i mean new cars are not supposed to look like old cars!. this car is going to be mean as hell and im taking a loan out to get it..to hell with college..lol

Attu

How can you not love this car? Put a coat of Metallic Emerald Green on it and it screams look at me. The guage layout is somethign straight out of Boyd Coddintons or Chip Foose's shop. Simple, elegant, straight forward. Perfect if you as me. It bridges the gap from the blue collar Camaro of the 60's to a Luxury vehicle found today. All that billet aluminum (I'm assuming) throughout the cockpit cleans up the interior to no end. Now the only question I have let is how big of a powerplant are they going to allow me to put into mine!

pete

If:
a. The exterior remains as illustrated.
b. They have decent powerplants (nothing less than 400-550hp).
c. They do something about the interior.

Then:
I will buy. I owned a 93 Z28 - mainly for the LT1 and T56 and loved it. In late 2002, I test drove the 2002 SS and found it lacking - particularly in comparison to the 2003 Cobra (which I now own). I really would like GM to get this right...

Jack

Those guages have got to go!

Greg

I love the looks of this car!! The Guages that so many of you find ugly, I find absolutey beautiful. I love the ass end with the wide tires...lots of traction for the 400plus horsepower. It looks mean as hell!!!!! I will be buying this car.

Beau

The Concept Camero is based on a loose model of the 76 and a cross of the popular charger series out there. Low roof, swept design, agressive front grill. Wide as the rear end may be, it has to fit the drive train they are running as well as the massive rims and tires. For all those complaining about a weak engine, are you nuts? The model they are showing has a 6.0 litre Corvette LS2 engine in it. That's 400 hp of pure muscle in a four seater that can be obtained in convertible. For the money you can't buy more power off the assembly line. Car looks great, and what is this GM hatred out there?

ZenLordOne

Camaro lovers will always be, Mustang lovers will always be. The car is incredible if you like GM, terrible if you like Ford.
See you on the streets!

is a wating lis started yet because i want to get on it

Drew

If its less then 30K then ill consider. But i think you would have to be out of your mind to pay over 30K for a chevy camaro, i dont care who you are.

maro man

i see all the domestic haterz found a camaro site and decided to put in their opinions on them. tell me why click and post on a camaro blog if you hate it? your opinions probably are worthless and your probably an outcast with no life. do this pick the car u like whatever it as (good for you) and join their blog. dont waste your loser life posting on something you dont like for no reason because its a domestic. whatever you feel to post back it okay you close minded sorry individual.

Frank

The body of new camaro is positively very impressive, when I saw it I thought to myself, I would definitly get one. As I scrolled down through the pictures and saw the interior (gages etc...), I was shocked to a point which quickly changed my mind about getting one. If it is at all possible, I would recommend refining the gage cluster.

I am officially official when I say I have to have one of those. I'll be one of the first in line when they hit my local dealership.

Trainer

The Camaro will be a hit. GM did a great job on the styling and updated the '69 model in just the right places. My only suggestion would be an upgraded grille that looks less plasticky. It looks like the interior might be of a higher quality than what's planned for the Challenger. This dog will hunt.

there is a ss with a LS6 coming out late of 08

Duran

Well i own a 87 Mustang GT a 03 Mustang GT and a 87 Iroc and a 2001 SS. Me personally i think its one hell of a car. The interior is not so great but im pretty sure the power will make up for it. The exterior looks great. I would get one of this over the new mustang. Good job GM. I love ford dont get me wrong.

Ed

The 2010 Camaro is way far ahead of any price-comparable import...in styling especially. That combined with a vigorous hydramatic and impressive gas mileage for a rear-wheel drive sports car. Finally, GM is back designing/building solid cars that are undeniably image-setting. And that's pretty much what buying a sports car is all about !
