Mazda Announces Pricing For MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top

OK. We have to say it. We hate the name of the new Miata. Not only does Mazda make us say MX-5 when everyone still says Miata, now the retractable hardtop version is called the “MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top.” Couldn’t they find something less cumbersome? The headlines get too long.

As for the price, $24,350 is now the point of entry to get one of today’s most well-balanced roadsters with a fully retractable — and powered — hardtop. The base convertible with an already easy to use soft-top starts at $20,435 for a Club Spec model, or what you would think of as a stripped-down version. The new retractable hardtop starts life as a Sport model, with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and larger 17-inch wheels. The soft-top Sport starts at $22,935. That means the retractable hard top only costs an additional $1,415.

That’s pretty amazing and will help generate traffic when the car arrives at dealerships next month. For those keeping track, this makes the MX-5 the least expensive retractable hardtop convertible on the market. Now Pontiac has to go change their advertising for the G6 Convertible.

This will be one machine that I must check out!
I guess GM will be looking into it also, so to speak, for their future Solstice and Sky roadsters.

I like the car but reading that name actually made me cringe. It makes me wonder what inspiration Lincoln will find here. It could be worse though... TIGUAN! I just wish the companies that don't want to use words in there names would come up with a logical naming convention like Audi and BMW have.
