Lincoln MKS May Replace Town Car

Lincolnmks1

We just posted about the Lincoln MKS being the first mass production Ford with a new capless gas filler. That might have left many of you wondering, “What the heck is a Lincoln MKS?” We first saw the MKS as a concept car (shown above) in January 2006 at the Detroit auto show. There was little doubt it would make it to production, and today Ford confirmed that the MKS will debut as a 2008 model. And because it will be placed at the top of Lincoln's lineup, it could very well replace the Town Car, one of the company’s longest-running and best-selling models.

We’re still unhappy with the new three-letter names for future Lincolns, but we think the concept of a Lexus-like full-size sedan replacing the outdated Town Car is an excellent idea. Although we’d hazard a guess that keeping the Town Car name would reduce confusion among Lincoln loyalists and even casual car buyers.

I think the Fusion is a cool looking car. I like the new Mustang. I like the photos I've seen of their other upcoming vehicles. I like the look of this new MKS car. What the heck were they thinking with the 500 then?

you pose the question I think everyone was asking.

i wouldn't agree with the fusion being cool, its still bland and reminds me of a knock off CTS, but i do have to agree this lincoln is OK-but i see LOTS of recalls in its future... The Edge could use alitle bit of help and the 500 needs to be killed, the ford/jellybean look it OLD! Town Car TOO!

I am a Ford fan and all ways have been, but the design of Ford and Mercury cars are getting weirder by the day. Like the 500 and now the weird looking MKS. As Chrysler has imagination and even is thinking about bringing back the Imperial, Ford is letting all it's models die out without even a whimper. Imagine a redesigned Towncar with some exciting design and handling. Imagine a Crown Vic with design. Imagine a Cougar growling and chasing a Charger. Wake up your designers Ford, before your company goes the way of the dinosaurs.
Many of your vehicles look like they came from the same mold. The F-150 the Expedition, the Explorer, the Ranger. Look at them , they all look like they have nostrils.
If dress makers made all there dresses look alike as Ford has many of it's models, they would not have many buyers from the female crowd, and for the male crowd , where would be the excitement if every woman dressed alike ?

As a long time Ford fan of 35 years, my interest in their designs is waining.
I think Ford must have gotten all the designers from the defunct AMC company and we all know what happened to that company.

Tommy,
The interesting thing is that Ford has hired away some of the top designers from other companies and one of those guys was instrumental in the 500!
Also the Trucks look similar on purpose I believe.

And personally I find the new grille treatment on the Fusion and upcoming Edge to be pretty neat as do the many people buying them.

If ford keeps going in that direction (and keeps updating the Mustang as well as they did two years ago) I think their design will be safely above average. Plus you have to remember while Chrysler does the exterior extremely well they don't execute everything else quite as splendidly.

I disagree with those who think that the MKS is "weird". I think it looks European, it's more BMW than Cadillac, which is a very good thing in my opinion. I've always thought the Europeans were light-years ahead of the Americans in their designs.

i see a lot of lexus myself and thought the concept was quite attractive in person too.

i think the mks looks really cool. it almost looks like a lexus or an acura or some foreign car. i am very surprised that we finally caught up with the japanese/ europeans in car design with the fusion, edge, and hopefully the mks. now the two most important things than styling is gadgets and quality. if it has a navigation system, back-up cam or at leats sensors, memory chip, RSC, independent suspension, ect..., and doesn't handels good with turns, acceleration, braking, then we've got ourselves a winner to compete with foreign luxury sedans. lincoln don't cancel this vehicle and don't forget all the cool gizmos and everything.

I can't believe no one has commented that this looks just like an Infinity M.

Steven

If the new Fords/Lincolns are looking sort of European-ish, and that's a good thing, then won't people just buy real European cars???
