GM's Hydrogen Sequel Concept Now Drivable

Sequel

The news yesterday wasn’t that GM built a drivable hydrogen car. In fact, I’ve driven one of GM’s hydrogen vehicles that are used spartanly in government fleets. No, the news is that the slick Sequel hydrogen concept that was first shown at the 2005 Detroit auto show is now fully functioning.

What’s different about the Sequel compared to current hydrogen cars is the unique placement of all the parts. Everything that powers the car is built right into the frame. That means there's no engine up front, and the skateboard-like underbody could theoretically fit under a variety of models.

When the concept was unveiled, GM said the Sequel would perform far better than current hydrogen cars, with acceleration equivalent to traditionally powered vehicles.

As for when to expect any of this technology to hit the market, don’t hold your breath. While hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, refining it is still costly, and there is no infrastructure for transporting it to service stations. Currently only a few hydrogen fueling stations exist in the U.S.

A very Good car!!!

A hydrogen car I would drive!

BMW is way ahead of GM with regards to this technology. They already have cars on the road in Germany with a number of hydrogen stations.

jj,
like i said this isn't GM's first hydrogen car. They do have many vehicles on the road in areas like Washington DC. This is a unique concept that offers a lot of options in the manufacturing process. that is why it's interesting. However, the US government and energy companies have to handle the bulk of the work to get hydrogen at gas stations throughout the country, not GM or the automakers.

The Vue already gets the 27 plus miles per gallon without using the hybrid. Why do we need to convert if there is no real payoff? Competition is great, but the people need something more for their buck.

Sounds great.. Too bad the oil companies and the government won't let it happen until they can figure out how to make billions in profit to take the place of gas.

It is not costly to refine hydrogen at all. Given a hydrogen powered motor, I can refine all the hydrogen you need for next to free. Maybe you'd like me to come there and show world how? I can give you pure hydrogen for something less than what anyone will ever pay at the pump. It is very easy! Very simple!
Called (H2O)and the current from the engine itself while it is running, separated and compressed into our pure burning fuel.

Waw great Car!!!!!

Thanks for sharing such a nice stuff.I would link to drive it.

I remember seeing this Sequel hydrogen concept car way back in 2005. So many of the concept cars never make it to production so I'm excited to see the reviews now several years later. Has anyone heard how sales are doing on this car?
