Ford Recalls More Than 1 Million Trucks and SUVs
Ford announced today it is recalling approximately 1.2 million 1994 - 2002 vehicles due to a faulty cruise-control switch that can cause fires. This is the second time Ford has had to issue a recall for this same problem in some of its most popular models.
The recall affects: 1994 - 2002 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks; 1994 - 96 Econoline vans; 1996 - 2002 E-450 trucks; 1998 Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer SUVs; and 2000 - 02 Excursion SUVs.
We recommend owners call their dealer and schedule a service appointment to address this problem as soon as possible.

Looks like I'll be taking my Mountaineer in soon :( It's amazing that it took Ford TWELVE years to catch on to this problem...

I thought Ford made decent cars until I test drove a Honda Accord. My husband thought the Ford F150 was the pinnacle of trucks until he test drove a Nissan Titan. In both instances we ended-up purchasing those autos. I used to think that this was unusual, but now I believe it is becoming the norm. At least with the purchase of my Accord I will not have to return to the dealer for yet another Ford recall.
PS I found cars.com about two months ago and have been hooked ever since. Especially like Dave T's articles - very well written.

Carol,
Thanks for the kind words.
Unfortunatley recalls, even one this bad, happen to every car company. Toyota has had a slew of recent recalls in the U.S. and overseas. You have to really pay attention to how well the company addresses the recall once its found. Having to replace a part twice does seem pretty bad though and chrysler had a similar problem just yesterday with the liberty recall.

Seems that your beloved Fords catch fire easily. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. That's what's the real problem. Apparently, Toyota's might have a problem to steer, but then again, they don't catch fire.

I bought a 2008 Ford F-350 last month and I wish I had read this blog before I did.I have had problems with it not shutting off normally when I turn off the key.I have taken it back to the dealership 2 times in 1000 miles the problem started after only 24 miles. The dealership cant find the problem or are they willing to make it right by replacing the the truck. They know what its doing and have seen it in person.I pray everyday that someone totals it in the parking lot one day soon.
