New Chevy Camaro to Get Green Light

Camaroconcept

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that on Thursday GM will announce the production of a new Chevrolet Camaro based on the 2006 concept car shown here. The announcement is possibly the worst-kept secret in Detroit. When it debuted, the concept car wowed almost everyone, and with the new Mustang released in 2005 still going strong, a new Camaro should find an audience. The announcement comes on the heels of Chrysler confirming plans for a production Challenger, which also debuted at the 2006 Detroit auto show.

A V-6 and two V-8 engines are anticipated when the Camaro rolls out, likely as a 2009 model. It will be rear-wheel drive, and one of the powertrains could offer cylinder deactivation to raise mileage. Even with gas prices rising faster than we can follow, we think there’s room for another muscle car on the automotive landscape. At least this one.

Which engines? My prediction: the 3900 V-6 in the base model, Chevy's 5.3L V-8 (w/cylinder deactivation, as mentioned) in the Camaro Z28, and the Corvette's 400-hp LS2 V-8 in the Camaro SS. Maybe a special Z06-engine edition later on to fight the GT500.

that would rock... they should put out some pictures using some retro color schemes... I HATE THEY GRAY

I'm just waitin on the price tag on the SS and the mileage doesn't matter much though I'm planning to get one regardless.

this is an amazeing car my favorite

I ABSOLUTLY HATE IT!!! IT DONT EVEN RESENBLE A CAMARO TO ME, IT TOOK AWAY ITS LOOK!

I read an article in MotorTrend Magazine on the engines being discussed by GM for the new Camaro and it said they were looking at developing a 4.0L V6 for the standard model a 5.7L V8 again in the Z28 and two available SS packages one with the 6.0L LS2 engine and another with the 7.0L LS7 as in the C6 Z06 models which I'm sure would increase the Corvettes engine for those years. This 7.0L package would be a 427 505hp CAMARO SS straight out of the box.

Whoa that Camaro is FAT!!!!
