2007 Chevy Silverado Revealed
Today, GM announced two of its most important new vehicles for the next few years. Combined, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are the best-selling full-size trucks in the country, while the Ford F-Series is the best-selling nameplate. Now there are all-new Silverados and Sierras on the way for truck guys to drool over.
While many pundits say full-size truck sales are down because of high oil prices, it could also be because truck buyers are savvy about their rides and know that GM and Toyota have all-new models ready to roll for the 2007 model year.
The 2007 Chevy Silverado comes in three cab styles — regular, extended and Crew Cab — and three box lengths — short (5 feet 8 inches), standard (6 feet 6 inches) and long (8 feet). But those are just the configurations. The real meat is under the hood and inside the cabin.
There are seven — yes, seven — different powerplants available for the Silverado, ranging from a 195-hp V-6 to a 367-hp V-8. Five of the six V-8s offered have cylinder deactivation for improved mileage. The top towing capacity will be 10,500 pounds. GM says that's segment-leading, but Ford just announced it has upgraded the 2007 F-150 to pull as much. Yes, this is a war, folks.
Even more impressive than the advanced and economical engines is the much-improved interior. The Silverado LTZ features the same sophisticated dashboard and plush seats as the all-new Chevy Tahoe full-size SUV. That interior is one of the best GM has ever delivered.
In an odd move, GM is offering a distinctly different interior for the Silverado LT with or without a front bench seat. Since we haven’t seen one in person we can’t speak to its quality, but from the pictures below it looks solid.
Pricing and sale dates haven’t been announced, but expect stickers to stay close to the current range of $15,840 – $37,980, with the lower number more likely to rise. There is no hybrid version yet planned for this new Silverado, but the entire current lineup of trucks, including the hybrid, will continue on in 2007 as the “Silverado Classic.”

It's the gas mileage stupid. Nothing more, nothing less. Let's face it, the majority of pick-up drivers don't tow or use the vehicle for business. The Big 3 could come out with a new model every six months and it still wouldn't take the sting out of $75 fill-ups.
For the record, the front end is butt ugly.

GREAT LOOKING TRUCK! THIS WILL BE THE BEST LOOKING TRUCK ON THE MARKET! THIS TRUCK WILL BE HARD TO BEAT!
Posted by: DUANE DeRUSO | Aug 2, 2006 6:38:17 PM
i love it! This will be a big hit! the exterior is great, reminds me of the colorado (which is a good thing) and the interior kicks 'A'..I don't think Chevy or GMC have to worry about Toyota ANYTIME (especially with that pig snout of a "truck" coming soon, but Ford should be alittle worried though...

this is the best looking truck made by chevy in a very long time its its trade make truck beleave it

i mean i was never a fan of chevy untill i laded eyes on this truck i know it has ford beat but has just caught up to dodge in style it may have dodge beat

i like it but kind of funny how they've copied the Titan with its doors and Utilitrac system. personally you'll still get better bang for your buck with the Titan. the ford is a dog, the new tundra to arrive is fugly, and the dodge, well - its a dodge! i'd buy one but god knows Chevy will mark these things up like they're gold! when the time comes i'll settle for a Nissan Titan! btw, isn't chevy begging Nissan to buy them out since they're profits and sales have literally hit rock bottom? just asking, so don't flame!

Are you all just a bunch of Chevy homers or something?? The drivetrains on the Chevy's are top notch and hopefully this new truck will have a much more competitive ride and feel. But this truck is just flat out the ugliest truck on the market aside from the Chevy Colorado!!! Why didn't Chevy go with the very well liked design of the new Tahoe??? Bad move in my mind. But Chevy homers will buy it anyway and proclaim it to be the next best thing to Wonderbread. Oh well.
Posted by: Skibeerski | Aug 8, 2006 11:37:35 AM
Well, it looks a lot better that slant-headlamped design they've been foisting off on their customers for the past couple of years.
I still like the look of the 2000-2002 the best - and I HATE the disappearance of the wrap-around chrome steel bumper: damn plastic trucks!!
If fuel economy is your main concern, you should go get a corolla. I expect a truck to be a working vehicle with the power (and just as importantly the transmission!) to pull twice it's weight safely anywhere I want to go. The increase in tow ratings is welcomed - I hope that it has been thoroughly engineered and tested from the air intake to the tires - and not just changing the numbers.

Chevy will be at the top when this truck is released. Toyota and nissan only have good warranty, other than that thet suck ass. Ford and Dodge have to make upgrades to their trucks as well.

GM will hit another home run with this truck, just like the new Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade/Avalanche. They have done their homework. The truck looks great, has an awesome interior; & Vortec power, well what can I say, it still kicks everything. The 5.3 is a rock solid engine, mine has 80K hard miles of towing my 5K lb boat over mountain passes on a regular basis on trips of 300 miles & more for the last 5 years. I can go over a 4500 foot pass at 70 plus towing my boat with 5 people in the cab & a load of camping gear in the back. I pass other trucks on a regular basis hauling less. The 5.3 numbers for this year are very impressive compared to other truck engines, who needs all those overhead cams & tons of tiny little valves. & the big displacement engines are on steroids this year! They did not just copy the Tahoe/Yukon look, which is a good thing. The Pickups need to look different! This truck should ride & handle great & Stabilitrak will just enhance everything. Whether you like GM or not, you better get used to seeing allot of these new trucks on the road & at the top of most auto mag tests for quite a while. The new Toyota will probably be a good performer too. I hope the other full size truck makers try to one up this new GM offering. Competition is good, just look at the trucks that have come out in the last 3 years!

Thank You to all of you who purchase Nissan, and Toyota... GM is aiming for you. Your selection and ideas of what a truck should be has become a CAR with a big Body. I have owned 3 Silverado's a 1986, a 2000 and currently a 2004. Where has the "Truck" gone.... those that have owned Chevrolet's know where I am coming from. I wish GM the best, and hope Motor Trend and it's followers are happy.
THANKS

Not bad, but I have to say...I still prefer the looks of the F-150 inside and out. However, I will say that the Toyota is hideous and quite frankly I find the Titan un-original.
Posted by: Steve | Aug 22, 2006 10:35:57 PM
This truck is definately a big change from the typical GM trucks that have been around for years! I have personally owned several GMC Sierra pickups over the years and have to say this truck is incredible inside and out. In regards to people complaining about gas mileage...if you're paying for quality and style why would you cry about paying a few extra bucks for gas, from the articles I have read in newspapers this truck will have the highest gas mileage of any fullsize pickup! In addition why would anyone want to buy a toyota, nissan or honda pickup considering most of thier body styles are stolen from big 3 designs, I.E. the honda ridge line is a mini avalanche! Good luck to GM!!!

CHEVY, Like a rock!!! What does this mean to GM? I've been a CHEVY fan all of my adult life. Over the years I've seen GMs' car and truck line get worse and worse. QUALITY, is not an aspect of the design team. Evertything is plastic, thin metal and/or cheap chrome. From the factory I've had doors not close right(silverado 2004), vibrations throughout the cab that can't be explained (silverado 2003 v6). These are just to name a few. I had a '91 Silverado v8 4x4 (brand new) the 5yrs. I had it not once did I take it in for warranty work. The past 3 GM trucks (2002-2004) I've had to take in on a month-4 month basis. QUESTION, Whats going on over there?
COMMENT, Be the leader that you once were. Be original (eg.Ford F-350 in body design), your new 2007 looks like the Titan in so many ways. We are AMERICA, Remember? GM count your BLESSINGS that you have loyal customers (like myself) who continue to support your business. But, PLEASE DON'T TAKE THAT FOR GRANTED.

this chevy truck does not look like nessan in no way and chevy pease start making your trucks not car like if i want a car i would buy a car make em higher like ford not low its a truck that is the reason i think ford out sells all trucks becase it is a real truck
Posted by: casey | Aug 30, 2006 6:22:49 PM
Trucks are not supposed to be jacked way up. Even the trucks that drive in the Baja races that are not jacked way up, they are as low as possible to remain stable & not roll over. They are maximized for suspension travel. I personally do not want my truck jacked way up. It is difficult to lift heavy things into & out of it. Just this weekend I loaded 48 pressure treated 2X8X10's into my truck. These pressure treated boards are very heavy! In my Silverado I do not to lift them up to put them in the bed of the truck thank you very much! I have had my truck into very challenging 4X4 situations & have never wished I had a truck that was jacked way up. Maybe a 2 inch lift to give a bit better approach & departure angle would be nice, but no higher. The nice thing about getting a truck that is regular height to begin with, is that is you prefer to have it higher, you can raise it, but it is very difficult to lower a truck.

Ugly.....Go TOYOTA!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it amazing Toyota's market share is the only one who isn't losing profit. My current Tundra run's circle's around Ford, Dodge and Chevy with's it's TRD supercharged engine.

Great looking truck!! I love the change to the front end. I hated the slanted headlights! Chevy fan forever, but have been waiting for this design change. I'm hooked on this one! Can't wait to see and drive it. P.S. TUNDRAS SUCK!

o my go dam this truck has a speicial look about it could this be the greatest truck chevy ever made i cant stop looking at it
Posted by: nina | Sep 18, 2006 4:22:08 PM
Why does Chevrolet keep lowering the front end on the 4x4 models. I know a ton of people who actually use there 4x4 or just look at some you see on the street. Tell me whats missing. The front air dam is missing on just about all the 4x4's that actually get used. The Ford ranger has got more front ground clearance than a chevy or gmc. why cant the 4x4 models of the 1500 sit like the 2500's.

chevy sounds souf. ford sounds strong. need i say morechevy rides low ford ride high. need i say more ford out sells chevy every year lol do u get the point.ive been driving a simi for two years now so i can aford to buy me a new truck and guess what truck it will be .a ford pick up
Posted by: che | Sep 20, 2006 5:24:16 PM
I think this truck is marvelous. It's unique body style and interior is beautifull. I mean we all would rather have a gmc made vehicle than a Ford, dodge, toyota, nissan, bmw, or any other stupid ugly looking vehicles. I would take this over a ugly ford f 150 any day. and yes tucks are supposed to stand up high, and be jacked up to look tough not week like f 150's

I impressed with the new silvy, Its extremly hard busness to satisfy the consumers these days and there expectations of trucks. Every year trucks seem to get more carlike and luxurious, and from the looks of the chevs interior its so pretty id be ashamed to use it as a farm truck. Ive owned two chevy's, a 1970 custom shortbox 4x4, and now a 1971 cheyenne shortbox 4x4 all orginal aside from paint. If I were GM's truck designer or one of them I would have double teamed with the 09 camaro concept and made a retro design of the 67-72 pickups. Those trucks hands down are the best looking trucks that were ever made. They were rugged and pretty. I dont care for the 07's nose dive, and gody headlamps but the body design is nice. Now I wonder what a good exhuast is gonna sound like with displacement on demand or cylinder shutoff or whatever there calling it.

chev trucks suck, own 2006 with 323 gers wount pull it self off wet grass
Posted by: | Oct 15, 2006 5:00:25 PM
This is an Impressive style change for Chevy..It's like they're actually paying attention to current market trends! This is a marvelous new direction for Chevy, however the rear styling appears cheap and bulbous. I am saddened by the recycling of their current powertrain. 295 horses puts chevy behind the other market leaders in hp. Americans want better quality as well as functionality. Chevy may be starting to understand that...and yeah the front end sits too low. Though I'm sure plenty 20 somethings are drooling over the prospect of a fabtech lift.
Posted by: | Oct 16, 2006 6:35:53 PM
I love chevy trucks I think the drivetrains are great but this truck looks sissy like, I want a truck not a car these things sit to low in the front end I love the stance of ford and dodge trucks they sit pretty high right from the factory, chevy needs to raise it about 2 inches!
Posted by: TW | Oct 20, 2006 11:16:30 PM
if you sit an old school ford next to a chevy it looks like the daddy of chevy trucks lol aka dodge is in the same class as ford
Posted by: che | Oct 24, 2006 4:53:24 PM
The only thing that impresses me about this truck is the interior. I think all of todays trucks have taken a more carlike appearance as far as exterior goes, so hey why not have it more carlike inside as well, you pay up the ass for these trucks they might as well look like they have some quality, Right on Chevy. You guys must have all been born in the south the way you are writng about these trucks.

For the record i think it is ugly. I am disappointed in the looks of the whole truck line. Escalade to the trucks. Grills and lights seem too tall on the yukon / tahoe / escalade and way too wide on the silverado. Otherwise i don't think they look too bad. I agree with Skibeerski why can't i have a steel bumper on my Duromax. I broke it hitting a wee little snow bank, then in the mud... What caused all manufacturers cheaply made with lots of cheaply made yet costly extra components to which break (warranty). I am concerned about electric lift gates, rear camera and people want electric teliscopic and tilt steering WWHHHHHYYYY! Don't get me wrong, i am a strong advocate of techonology. our vehicles are less reliable and more expensive to own. I have no answers.

if u want a toyota, move to japan. If your an american and u buy anything other the ford chevy or dodge, then to me u are not an american. I honestly can't believe anyone would even consider a toyota or even worse a nissan? nissan trucks are a joke, seriously, junk, i know i've worked on them, its a project just to change the oil. stupidness pure and simple. .?? and people buy their junk. american trucks are real trucks. esp. this new chevy with its awesome drive train

New chevy 2007 silverado LT is an awsome machine. If you think it looks and dives like a car you ought to actually try one. The power and handling is teriffic on OR off road, bin there and done that. As well the support from GM, yes GM factory, for questions and answers has been above and beyond anything I've ever had before from any other manufactuer. I do not work for GM and even once said things like never again but I'm glad to be back. Common winter, I'm ready and waiting...I hope this truck doesn't scare winter off.

I just got my new style 2007 Siverado Z-71 LTZ last week. It's nice and drives good, but the idiots forgot to make some cubbys to put sun glasses in and phones etc. They totally forgot about the Driver!! The dash area is too much like a car. I bought a truck not a car. They sure need to rethink this! Oh Yea they went up in price a bunch and my 2005 was more driver friendly! Dave Texas
Posted by: | Dec 27, 2006 11:26:50 AM
Alot of comments said, of cource we all have our own personal opions which is great.
I personally like the new look, I ordered a new one Red LTZ Z71 Crew Cab that should be in the drive way in January. I have a 98' Silverado extended cab and love it. My last truck was a 91' extended cab and loved it, the one before it was a 85' short box and loved it. I have to be honest I haven't been to impressed with the past GM body styles from 98' on, until now this one looks good. I've shopped around and really nothing else has really been to appealing.
Good luck on your next car purchase.

people need to stop bashing Toyota (and other foreign manufacturers), for whatever reason. Toyota invests heavily in this country while your run of the mill American carmakers head for Mexico to produce most of their vehicles. Even in Japan, Toyota execs get paid a fraction of an American fatcat executive's salary. Besides that, don't expect me to buy a car that was approved by a bunch of overpaid idiots in Detroit with crappy reliability and poor overall characteristics. That's not being patriotic, its being stupid, extremely stupid. It's a shame American factory workers get laid off because their bosses are idiots, but what do you expect when most American offerings are horrid and craptacular. If people didn't buy Toyotas for fear of being unpatriotic, GM wouldn't have been forced to redo this truck in such a manner, which I must say, looks surprisingly good. See? I'm not a GM basher.

When I saw the truck on TV I was hopeful. I hated what GM did to those trucks on the previous model. When I actually saw one on the freeway I was GREATLY DISSAPOINTED. What FUGLY piece of CRAP this truck is. Why did they make the front end so Bloated. It makes the previous model look like a stepup. Im all for buying american trucks and I'm happy with my 05 Dakota. GM can die and go away forever without me flinching at all. What a piece.

Posted by: eric | Dec 29, 2006 6:18:55 PM
This truck has upgraded to items which were already on other trucks. Tailgate torsion bar (Ford), bed rack system (Nissan), engine deactivation, and not to mention that the truck looks like Honda Ridgeline's big brother. Nothing new here. GM is finally catching up with the competition.

I currently own a 2002 1/2 ton chevy Z71. I purposely bought it to avoid the 2003 body, because the structure was virtually identical. I tow 4-5 days a week at between 3500-6500 lbs. I drive offroad at many locales across the nation, and so far. I'm pretty pleased with the Chevy truck.(more ground clearance please) In 2002 it was the only one I'd consider. The Fords were very poor build quality in comparison. The Chevy had the best ride out of the 3 at the time, but then the next gen Ford came out. It is also a very nice truck and I'd be hardpressed to pick right now. I see people like this new body style, but I hate it. But I hated the last one in between mine, and now it is growing on me very slowly.
Chevy has always dominated the drag strip in production engines(look it up if your a ford guy in denial)but the ford(dominates rearends in drag racing) has front coil-overs and is vastly superior to the chevy's coil shock for offroading. Dodge trucks have always felt plasticy cheap inside to me, but even they are really growing on me.
Dodge V-8 in mid size truck is great, but the fullsize has atleast another generation before I'd consider it. THE NISSAN TITAN IS AMONG THE MOST HATED BODY STYLES OF A TRUCK EVER MADE. THIS LOOKS VAQUELY SIMILAR IN THE FRONT. Gaping front end and shitty colorado fenders. Smooth rolling beautiful fenders would look nicer tan the sharp "future car" stamped bullshit. But then again I think the TVR Tuscan is one of the best looking cars on earth Thank goodness it doesn't have the giant nissan hamburger logo.If you look past the
outside and buy for engine drivetrain and suspension you'll end up with a better truck. GOOD LUCK ;)

I own a 2007 Chevy Silverado extended cab. It's awesome! I've driven every truck on the market ( even the rice cooker version of what they think is a full size truck is). People, take my word when I say that the new Silverado out performs them all. 6 days ago I had to pull a Nissan Titan with a 10 foot boat trailer attached to it out of the sand. All in all it took me less than 1 minute to hook up my tow hitch and yank the other truck out of a mess. Saved the driver the hassel of paying a tow truck $200 to pull his truck and his boat out. The interior is very comfortable and lots of space. Anyone expecting to save some gas should go buy a 4 cylinder vehicale. Anyone who knows anything about a full size truck would expect to spend a good amount of cash on fuel. That's the only downside of this vehicale, but everything else rocks!

All i have to say is that I like how high the Ford and Dodge sit, I like the dodge because of the engine(Cummings TB Diesel)but they blow trannys because of the 400+ FT of TQ, the rest looks very plain. I like how easy the fords can be lifted, most of the engines and drive train are not reliable i do like the solid front axel, the interior is very plain just like the Dodge I dont like the front end on both. Last I own a Chevy silverado 05 crew cab longbed TURBO Diesel 4X4 I dragged the largest(26 ft Ford) truck That Orange and white truck rental place has for one block with brakes fully engaged if you saw the skid marks you would say WOOOOOOW.
I have owned Ford,Dodge,Nissan,Toyota trucks and some model that i have never seen here in the states(lived in a few Countries all over world)I think Chevys are the best! My only request to Chevy would be to even out the front and rear of the truck so they dont have that lower look in the front i know once you put a load on it it evens out. But other than that Chevys are the best.
Posted by: | Jan 21, 2007 4:43:34 AM
I recently purchased a 4.8 liter chevy full size crew cab. I sold my 2005 DURAMAX. The fuel economy is no where near the estimated on the ratings and sticker. They are full of it when they say 16-20. This truck barely gets 16 dwon hill with no load. I love the interior and the style, but the power for towing and fuel economy are bunk for the 4.8 v/8.
I am pissed that after 6 trucks in the last 10 years and I have the softest motor on the market.
Does anyone know how to file a formal complaint? Please write about it so people can stop the lying!!

This 2007 Chevy Silverado needs to go to the scrap yard the new truck does not show any muscle. It looks like a girls truck. GM needs to wake up and motertrend should of not given that truck an award. It should of went to the Chevy Silverado Classic 2007 the real truck or the 85 Chevy c/k models. I am proud of my 2006 Chevy Silverado HD and will never buy that ugly new Silverado!!!!

Drove the new silverado and the new tundra today.
The tundra took it hands down. Way more power in the trundra. Interior on exterior on the tundra where much nicer.
Toyota stands behind their product a lot better and they dont sell out there customers by offering huge year end blow outs sales slashing resale values.
Tundra is also priced much better.

It makes me think from the spelling in the comments that most of the people making the complants against the new chevy trucks style that they proably can't afford one anyway. I have owned chevy ford and dodge and this new chevy does get 20 mpg and 18 mpg with my 20ft bike trailer behind it with three bikes in it. You just have to know what you are buying. It is a 2500 crew cab 4x4 with 5.3 and 373 gears. I just traded a 2004 ram withs a diesel with 350 gears and got 19 with it. It is mostly personal in what you like, I would take any of the three and set up right you would not get stuck in wet grass. The new body has alot more room in the back seat that most of the others and it has more options for the money. Maybe if you get a GED and a better job I will sell it to you in two years when Im ready to trade it off.

I recently test-drove the F150, Silverado, and Tundra with similiar packages. The F150 was a distant third with the Silverado and Tundra tying. I went with the Tundra as I've never owned a Jap truck and was willing to try something different. That coupled with my local Chevy's dealership lack of customer service made it a rather easy decision. Either way if one were to buy any of the three you would still end up with a very good truck.

Hands down chevy has got the all around best truck. I have hot shotted with all three, worked on all three. Dodge has the best motor in terms of diesel but they don't make it and they have the most horrible drivetrain on the market oh yea that hemi thing is a joke. Ford and chevy share alot of the same parts between them not meaning that they are interchangeable but identical in terms of torque specs. Hopefully got the new diesel ready to go (6.4). As for fords gas engines they tried to keep up with chevy but just haven't been able to reverse engineer them fast enough (302). As for toyota, nissan, and honda. I think they are great hopefully all these whitecollar type people who drive there f 350 king ranch to the corporate office everyday will buy one of the over seas models. As for me I am a working man need truck not a honda accord with the trunk lid removed. I will be buying the new 3\4ton because it is the best 3\4ton available on the market hands down and i would like anyone to tell me otherwise if you don't like the fact that they are lower than the other two do the physics it tows better and is more aerodynamically efficient.

come on peole the new chevy is kicka$$ no 2 ways about it and this comment about not gittin itself outta wet grass is bullsh!t it aint the truck its the driver ive driven a 98 dodge 2500 desiel, a 03 chevy 1500 4.8, and a 96 ranger 4x4 and i aint gone lie they are all good trucks i grew up on that ranger and the only problem was after 10 years of abuse the 4 wheel drive went out and i put it through hell. the second truck the chevy had it for about a year and i cant complain about a dang thing now i got a the dodge cause i needed somethin to pull a camper and im sorry but the 4.8 wasnt up 4 the job all good trucks though

The new chevys look like wanna be Fords. lets face it ford has been making the best looking, hardest working, and number one selling truck for thirty years. Ford trucks are the best hands down

how long will it take for you people to realize the only american truck is japanese! designed, built, manufactuered, and sold in the u.s.a. only! not half in canada(ford and chevy), and in mexico(chevy), or the profits going to germany(dodge) 381 hp 401 ftlbs 10,800 tow rating and for you ford guys that so called 11,000 tow cap. is combined gvwr payload and towing so if you want to go that route than 12,800. best fuel ecconomy (combined empty and fully loaded). best 0-60 in 6.0 sec. and better towing stabillity.(courtesy of motor trend march '08)
and one more thing who names their vehicles after natural disaters:
avalanche - nuff said
rainier - the native american word
for mt.rainier mountain of
fury
nova - exploding star
Solstice -not exactlly a disaster but
we are at the closest to
the sun
sorry i've been on a sour note with the avalanche for awhile (since they came out!)

WE HAVE THIS TRUCK IN THE CLOTH INTERIOR. DO NOT!!!! BUY IT WITH THE GRAY CLOTH WE HAVE 2400 MILES ON IT AND IT LOOKS TERRIBLE. THE MATERIAL THEY USED COLLECTS LINT AND MAKES IT LOOK REALLY BAD. WE ARE PAYING TO HAVE SEATS REDONE BECAUSE OF IT. LOVE THE TRUCK THOUGH, NOT TO GOOD ON FUEL MILAGE EITHER.
Posted by: mona | May 5, 2007 10:45:58 AM
the chevy towing cap is good but when you factor everything in the truck can tow avery light example a fifth wheel trailer when you factor in the pounds the truck can carry 1540 lb-passengers cargo and luggage example 850 lb the trailer pin weight can only be 690 lb consider a fifth wheel trailers pin weight is 25% of total trailer weight the biggest trailer the chevy can tow is about 2800lb

ford all wayz have had great trucks but i have to tell you chevy is on a nother level with this truck style is so awsome bigger than past chevys the way it should have been for years just put it this way it stands out

I bought the xcab wt 2wd 5 weeks ago and I can't say enough good things. I must say the gas mileage is as good or better than my 95 Ranger. I got 18.8 mpg on a 600 mile trip hauling boat & gear. The ride is impressive for a truck. The interior is quiet and has a spacious feeling. The controls are well layed out. The transmission is great; it shifts smoothly and decelerates like a manual trans when I get off the gas. The 295hp 4.8 has plenty of power to spare. The steering is excellent. I am pretty fussy about design being in the industry and I can't say one negative thing about this truck. The only test now is reliability. I am 42 yrs old & this is the 1st new vehicle I ever bought. Looks are a matter of personal taste but me & everyone who sees my truck thinks it looks sharp. Toytow may make a good product but some of us have fathers that fought in the Pacific and will never consider buying a Japanese automobile. Chevrolet, you have a winner on your hands. I would buy this truck again & again.

Have you seen the 2500hd LTZ silvy...Toyota, and nissan can kiss it. This 6.6 allison turbo diesel. smokes all those little rice burners. can tow how much? 13,000 lbs!!!!! Lets see that little 5.7 work now!!!!!
It's funny people comparing the 6.0l to 5.7 from toyota. THe 6.0l is the middle of the road engine for chevy. the 5.7 is toytas trump card. muhawaawawawa

Does the redesigned Silverado 2500 ride any better than the Classic 2500 empty?
Posted by: ROCK | Jun 1, 2007 11:53:33 AM
I might have bought this good looking new Chevy if my '97 1500 4x4 would have been better through the long haul. I have had to adjust the doors, THE DOORS! twice in its 10 year 123k life span. A door is the easiest thing to engineer on a truck, yet Chevy can't get it right. Other problems: Elec window on driver side wouldn't work when sunlight heated up the door. Coolant leak @ 60k miles from intake manifold. Furthermore, a 4" lift is required to make a Chevy a "truck". Otherwise you are stuck with the stock effeminate stance.
My 94 Dodge Ram was a total piece!
I bought the new Tundra. I refuse to be a martyr for the false pretense of buying "American." I am patriotic, but not unrealistic. The American way is to reward the best competitor, and right now, the best is Toyota. Brand loyalty is for romantic suckers.
Posted by: koby | Jun 4, 2007 1:54:27 AM
Toyota does not care for the USA or its people. They make 1.5 million cars and only directly employ 29 864 people. They pay the US worker $ 29 /hour In Japan they would be paying a worker $54/hour for the same work. Plus for every car Toyota sells only $200 go to the worker's benifits and GM pays $2500 from every car sale to the employee benifits. Furthere more by building the cars here toyota does not pay a tarriff TAX and the foreign co. is taxed at a lower rate than the US co. If we continue to purchase these foreign cars regardless where they are made we will all be in trouble. WE live in this great country support it! Buy from an AMERICAN co. AS is true for all foreign products Lysol is french why support them they clearly hate the US buy Clorox it is made in the US as is a US co. The list geos on.
Please don't be ignorant to the real fact Happymantis, toyota is not good for the US economy. There are plenty of books that support what I have said.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Posted by: jerzy | Jun 15, 2007 2:53:08 PM
Jerzy, I appreciate your attempt to support this country, but by buying inferior crap? Toyota doesn't have to care about the USA, they just have to please their customers. They've pleased me! A very respected motivational speaker once said, "there's plenty of room at the top. There's just not enough room to sit down."
Don't reward the American auto maker who has been sitting on his ass since the late sixties (current Ford mustang excluded from this rant) just because he's American. That's the equivalent of eating a poorly prepared steak made by Sizzler and boycotting Kobe steakhouse. If you boycott American Auto makers until they prove themselves competitive again, it will actually help the country.

Guys keep on putting Toyota in the truck class, Im sorry but I don't see it. I had a new Tundra pull up by me at the light and 0 to 110 I was looking at it in the rearview mirror. I agree with the good old USA guy and I think there are some that never had to watch a fellow seal pay the price for our freedom. Look around at what you have someone somewhere knows someone that has paid the biggest price of all so we can live the way we do. Keep on buying Jap cars & trucks maybe one day they will own us all.

Sorry but I hate the fenders and the front end of the new Silverado. It just looks awkward to me. Looks like somebody stepped on it. I read that the Chevy boys considered the last generation F150 wimpy looking. Well I don't see too much masculinity in this new design.
Posted by: heavy g | Jul 5, 2007 6:24:51 PM
I test drove a Silverado. Nice truck. It did however lack innovation IMO. For the same money (actually less) I got the Ridgeline. Bed in trunk, swing out tailgate much more refined ride and the crew cab design was actually comfortable in the rear seating area.
The Silverado however would be a better work truck IMO. Day to day though, I'll take the smooth/quiet ride of the Ridge. If i have heavy work to do, I'll borrow my Dad's Silverado. After work is done, we'll drive the Ridge out to dinner.

chevy has the best truck now and always will, how many motors has ford put in there diesels in the last few years, lets see the 7.3,6.0,and now the 6.4,the 6.6 liter duramax and allison trans.has more torque and horsepower,#'s don't lie, besides the fact that i drive fords at work and they stay in the shop.

ive owned a couple nissan trucks. i worked both as much as you can work a little truck. the second nissan (small frontier) hauled seventeen hundred lbs. of cement for me. also had a front end loader dump dirt into back of it to make trips when putting in swimming pool. i can say for the abuse i have given frontiers (i drive a bit fast too, even when jerking out tree stumps) they are tougher than they seem. considering these trucks are tin and plastic . i traded the frontier for a chevy. not so much because the chevy is tougher pound for pound but because its bigger can tow my boat easier and plow snow. dont trust the foreign truck companies entrance into full size yet. the chevy seems heavier built but the quality doesnt necessarily seem better. almost like the nissan had more precise tolerances in manufacturing standards like a swiss clock. the chevy standards seem more sledge hammer make it fit. i can also say that now with a chevy i have to listen to rattles and yes, it did get stuck on wet grass. i was however in two wheel drive backing up the boat up hill with the snow plow on the front (dont ask).

added note. its a 2000 1500 four wheel drive reg. cab long box with the 4.8. and has the "chevy" driveline clunking which from what ive been told is standard on all chevy models. i wouldnt buy the new chevy. i dont like the front end but besides that the depreciation factor.......
i dont mind the nose dive. it bothered me at first even with the 2000 model i have but i noticed when i put things in the back or tow the boat it levels out so its a bonus. i did beef up the front suspension just so when i put on the snow plow it would be three inches off the the ground up front and hitting obstacles. conseqently the beefed up suspension in front makes my truck ride like sh*t.

I just bought a 2007 Chevy 1500 Z71 4X4 i love the back doors and has a good ride but don't buy the gray cloth interior i have had mine for about 3 months and it looks really bad lent is stuck all over them. I am going to have to buy something to keep stuff from sticking to them or buy new seats.

i work for general motors, everthing was made in mexico an assemble in the us or canada. if you love chev tacos go head and by one. GM sold out a long time ago. TOYOTA IS BUILT IN THE US AND BUILT WELL,NOTHING CAN TOUCH TOYOTA
Posted by: dr | Aug 3, 2007 5:58:06 AM
people are always saying chevy is a wus because it copied the tundra'a wide opening door. well at least it has it. you dont see dodge or ford with that. oviesly toyota didnt patent it, so why dont they have it? another thing is, for is always saying in its comercials that it's f-150 has the most towing capacity in its class. well oviesly not because the silverado is the best truck of 2007.
Posted by: | Aug 15, 2007 11:19:31 AM
Just because the chevy won the "truck of the year award" the year it was redesigned doesn't mean that it has higher towing than ford. It's new! There are only like 5 full- size trucks out there- pretty much whenever one of them gets a significant redesign it wins. I'm a Ford fan, but I think this truck looks really good (especially the GMC version).
Posted by: sulli | Aug 15, 2007 11:53:46 AM
To the idiot who bought the ridgeline:
Congratulations, you bought a civic with a truck cab on the frame. You CANT do any work lol. The ridgeline is not in the "Fullsize" catagory, its in the midsize. It would do good to compete with the Ranger, Colorado, and Dakota. While I'm not fond of some of the things that any of the manufacturers are doing with their trucks, with the exception of the entire GMT800 line 2500 series. They all still beat Toyota hands down. The toyotas are droping drive trains and blowing engines at less than 5k. And as someone above pointed out, none of the money stays here. We're funding their advancements, and our children will pay for our mistakes should another world war break out.
Dodge sold out as well, most of its money goes to Germany, if you want to keep your money in the U.S. You have to buy GM, or Ford. Scarey huh?

Well guys, I've owned 7 Chevy's and this last one was the WORST. 2 transmissions, 2 fuel pumps, 2 sets rear wheel cylinders, 2 water pumps, umpteen sets of front brakes...you get the idea. I decided I just could not handle any more of this fine GM quality and then they bring out this uglyado, uglyera and the 2500 UGLY DUTY'S!! They are so bad I have to turn my head every time I see one on the road. That bug eyed front end reminds me of an 88 Ford which used to be the ugliest truck around. I have been at the local Dodge dealer this last week as they are gettin' a new customer!! I already don't miss the OnStar, and that pesky automatic crap the dealer would not disconnect for me like automatic headlights and door locks and those daytime running lights. By the way, did I mention I work at GM too?
Posted by: Lets Rock | Sep 14, 2007 12:19:33 AM
Its a glorified car. The real trucks are gone. You can get by with at least a 2500 series.
Looks like they hired some Nissan disigners to come up with the body style. It looks awfull. I will wait till the next version

I thought this truck would grow on me by now but it still looks uglier than ever. The truck up close and personal just looks plain and cheap. Chevy was the only other truck ive considered besides the dodge i have. The only complaint with my 05 hemi with 63000 miles is the the gas mpg but i could care less cause it does evrything i need to do and more with out being at the dealership a few times a year like some of the readers on here said. It also will pull 80-90 mph up 4000 ft grades with a 4000# boat. I would still buy the chevy over a Tundra or Titan anyday and the ridgeline doesnt even count. That thing is just dumb! America needs to stay #1.

Great truck design. To many people on here are dogging it saying its better then this one or that so what!!!!!!I currently own a 2001 chevy 2500 with the 8.1 trouble free with some minor upgrades and I can out pull almost any other truck with it (yes even cummins TD or the hemi to name a few)but thats not important I love the dodges and the fords too they have come a long way just like chevy/gmc.I also own a 2003 ford E150 cargo van with the 4.2 v6 engine.I am very happy with it (225,000 trouble free miles)this is the fifth one that I've owned and the others with this drivetrain just about exceded 300,000 miles trouble free before I traded them in.You people that currently own 1985 chevy trucks or anything other truck from back then and never even driven any of the gm trucks from the last 18 years should'nt even be writing any reviews on what they think (remember the gas explosions on the outside frame mounted fuel tanks on the 1973-87 gm truck? Oh how we forget they were great trucks just not as safe as the ones today or not as fuel friendly either and also I might add if anybody buys a truck and complains about fuel economy should be shot. These people should know that this vehicles are gas guzzlers and are used for hauling weight and towing fifth wheels or a 23 ft bayliner trophy boat or etc.I see soccer moms driving around in 3/4 to one ton pick ups with either v10's or diesels with no hitch on the back and a pick up bed that looks like its never been used This is a problem that we have in this country to all the people that own these trucks without the soul purpose of using for what they are designed for TRADE THEM IN on a minivan.I am jumping the gun a bit here but anyway the new silverado is NOT a new design.New vehicle designs are an illusion. The only thing new about the silverado is the body the chassis is the same as the 99-06 and the rear ends on the half ton trucks they have been using for almost 30 years now.It simply costs to much money for GM to start from scratch.Any new car design is a combo of new and old parts what ever they have in there parts bin they will use it and every automaker has been doing it for over fifty years. The japenese have been doing it from day one also.I love the new chevy/gmc trucks because they still look like trucks and the drivetrain and chassis are as tough as nails.I am speaking on experience with my 01 silverado any 99-06 owners would agree with me on that. The new trucks chassis and frame are the same layout as the 99-06 so we know what to expect.Keep up the good work GM

I find it funny that everyone has an opinion on this truck yet most of you aren't engineers, technicians, or product testers. This truck is a massive upgrade being that it's not on the same frame or drivetrain. If you look closely you'll notice the coil over front suspension unlike the 99-06 torsion bars, the completely different steering rack to cause less wear and hopefully reduce the grinding noise in them, the steeper leafs in the rear making it sit higher, and although the engines have the same displacement, there are a multitude of changes to them as well. The flaws in this truck are really a matter of personal preference, but I believe 4 speed automatic transmissions are out of date, the front differential should have two solenoids to engage the axles, the 4 cylinder shut off feature should have an override switch (I'm shocked nobody has complained about that yet), and I'm a little surprised that it was produced with a front end that sits so low (It's going to make installing a plow bracket a large hassle). And for those of you who rave about the 85 chevy's, 22 years ago I liked them too, but it's time to move past mechanical fuel injection, 350 ci engines with 200 horsepower, manual locking 4 x 4 hubs, and those god awful transmissions. Come join us in 2007. And for those of you that love chrome bumpers, this truck does have both front and rear bumbers made entirely of chrome plated 1018 steel as an option (they look great).

I will never buy another gm product. I have a 2004 truck with a drive train noise that would shock you by how loud it is when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd Have had it looked at several times, was told they all do it. Called gm,they said it was cosmetic. I make sure I tell everyone I know or ask how I like my chevy about the treatment about my trucks lousy noisy drive trane.

Tim, I feel your pain. I purchased a brand new Chevy Citation in 1980, and it turned out to be a lemon. Not only was I not helped by the dealer, they were extremely rude. I wrote a letter to GM's main office, explaining that I had many car buying years left, and I expected my vehicle to be repaired under warranty. All I got was a recommendation to talk to the dealer again. Now GM is losing billions and offering buyouts to all its workers...

I HAVE A GMC DENALY WITH 7000 MILES AS FAR AS THE HEATER CONTROLS THEY ARE VERY POOR.
A DIGITAL THERMOSTAT FOR THE HEATER CONTROLS,
YOU CAN CHANGE THE HEAT SETTINGS IN YOUR HOME
QUICKER AND EASER AT A GLANCE NOT VERY USER FRIENDLY.GREAT BIG CONSOLE BOX .OPEN THE COVER YOU WOULD EXPECT TO SEE MORE AMENITIES. ESPECIALLY UNDER THE LID, ROOM FOR PEN STORAGE E.T.C.
NOT EVEN A CHANGE HOLDER VERY POOR DESIGN.
THE HEATER CONTROL SHOULD HAVE LARGE KNOBS
THAT ROTATE LEFT TO RIGHT FOR SETTINGS.
BY FEEL BY THE TIME YOU FOCUS,IT'S A BAD
SITUATION. AVIATION CONTROLS ARE FRIENDLIER.
ON HIGHWAYS THEIR IS NO SAFETY MARGINS.
THESE FIXES ARE ALL MINOR AND NOT COSTLY
IMAM SURPRISED GM LET A TRUCK OF THAT CALIBER
ON THE ROADS. IT MAKES YOU WOUNDER,THEY BOAST
ABOUT THEIR NEW FEATURES. THAT 6 SPEED TRNSMISSION. IS THE MOST AQWARD FEATURE I'VE
SEEN ON A TRANSMISSION.THIS IS ANOTHER
DISTRACTION. THEY CLAIM THAT THE VEHICLE
SHIFTS SMOOTHER. TRY SLOWING DOWN TO 20 MPH
THEN ECCELLERATE GRATUALY IT WILL JERK YOU
SO BAD, IF YOU HAVE DENTURES YOU MIGHT SWALLOW THEM.AS FAR AS THE TRACK RECORD ON THIS TRANSMISSION. NOT SURE. FOR THE PASS 25YEARS
I TRADED for GM VEHICLES EVERY TWO,TWO AND A HALF YEARS AND THIS IS THE WORST YET FOR A LUXURY TRUCK
FORD HAS IT WHIPPED ON GM .

25 miles per gallon on hwy 18 in the city.
Best ride out of any p/u I have had. IN the last five years I have had ford and dodge but this is the best by far.
