Fools to those who don't believe gas prices reaching $4/gallon, and I 'm pretty sure that they are the same ones who didn't believe gas price reaching (and over) $3/Gal last Sep and early this year. It's already close to or even over $3.50/Gal here in California and Hawaii for premium (and even mid-grade in many gas stations), with lowest grade hoving around $3.20-$3.30/Gal. With the instabilities (note: PLURAL) around the world, esp. in the middle east, any issue can just lead the gas price to go past $4/Gal :(
I think the reason many people are voting "No" is because it says Labor Day. If it said Dec. 31 I think the Yes would be much closer in number of votes. I think it depends greatly on the end of summer bringing prices down and right now North Korea pushing it up!
Ahh, reguardless, this is a scarey thought. I remmeber when I bought my Civic in 2003, I get 35MPG usually and everytime I fill up it costs more and more, it was not ever over 20 dollars in 2003. Now....well....it's running in the 30's. I'd hate to drive an Escalade like my mother because she can spend 100.00 filling up, it would take me a month in my Civic to do that. I'm glad I even stuck with a good MPG care before all this happened anyway.
Acutally, reaching $4/Gal is extremely likely in the US before Labor Day...the keywords that I'm using here, which is in the title, are "Gas" and "IN THE US." Remember, there are 3 (or sometimes 4 or 5) grades of gas in the US. Hawaii's gas price is currently at, and mostly over, $3.50/Gal for REGULAR gas, meaning premium gas is usually at $3.80 or higher. Any slight tip in world stability (both Asia and Middle East- 1 or 2 more missiles from N. Korea or another car explosion in the M. East) will easily tranlsate to a 20¢ increase at the pumps. Thus, $4/Gal of Gas (Premium) can very likely be reached in the US (Hawaii) before the labor day. Moreover, I'd seen gas stations in the East Coast (New York State) selling 100% Octane 5 years ago...I bet those gas stations must be selling the 100% Octane, if they are still selling it, at over $4/Gallon right now...
It cost me $28 to fill up my Infiniti QX4 a few years ago; last week at the pump, it was $55 :(
It all depends on WHERE in the US they mean too. Here in New Jersey, regular's still under $3/gallon... barely... but it's under. I remember RI and Mass had some stations that are close to NJ prices... though I know the racing fuel that's sold in some places has to be over $6 or 7/gallon. I've seen it 102 Octane (I think it's called Cam 2) at one local gas pump... it was $5 already a year or two ago already. I was just in Alaska also, and the locals said that gas hits $7/gallon in the middle of the summer season!!! Who knows about this year (maybe 8 or 9?)... so technically the answer is yes. *Laughs*
IMHO, will gas hit $4 on the mainland... in pockets, maybe... like San Diego (where gas is always expensive)... all of California, and where gas taxes are outrageous... but not around here (NJ)
;iving here in Denver,CO I think that the gas prices are not going to reach $4 a gallon. But I live in Denver in the middle of the US, not in Hawaii or California or evene NY, those are the states that are going to have to cope with high gas prices at labor day. But when December comes and N. Korea is at war with us (hopefully not) gas prices could, everywhere in the US, reach well over $4 a gallon. My advice? BUY A HYBRID!!!
Here in Los Angeles (usually around the Hollywood area) I thought the gas was always more than $3.50. I don't pay close attention, but when it's close to $3.50 I think "ooh, cheap gas today" because often it's much worse.
The news here in N. CA says today that if the conflicts b/n Israel & Gaza/Lebanon continue, we'll see the gas prices going over $4 very very soon...probably before August!
I was in Ohio last week, getting used to $2.35 a gallon around Akron....
I cam back to California and had serious sticker shock - $3.20 a gallon in the Valley and closer to $3.60 at the beach for regular. I have no doubt it will be $4.00 plus by mid-summer.

well we saw $3.41 for regular this weekend in the city. Yes there are Chicago city taxes but even in the burbs still in the $3.25+ range.

Here in Western Canada (BC) we pay $1.20/litre (in Canadian $)
With the current exchange rate of 1.12 this already equates to US$4.05/gal
