2007 GMC Yukon: My Take

2007yukon

GM’s redesigned full-size SUVs debut for 2007, and Cars.com’s Dave Thomas recently got some seat time in one of them: a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali. I've also driven the Yukon, but in the lesser, SLT form, and found that many of the Yukon Denali's positive attributes are still present in the less expensive SLT.

Like Dave, I found the Yukon to be surprisingly manageable, considering its incredible size. It's very stable at speed and is relatively easy to maneuver — even on narrow urban streets. Frankly, I'm impressed by how far this class of vehicle has come in terms of stability, ride and handling, and drivability in the past 10 years.

It's still a truck underneath the sheet metal, though, and it takes some effort to climb into the driver's seat, even for tall folks. Once there, you have a commanding view of the road, though you get the impression that there's quite a bit of pavement in front of the Yukon that's obscured by the big hood.

Cabin materials are high grade and the dashboard design is pleasing to the eye. Gone are the days of the blocky, truck-like dashboard from the earlier generation Yukon. In terms of exterior styling, it's almost as if the Yukon has stepped back a couple of generations; the rear end's similarity with the 1999 Yukon is uncanny.

Though I agree with Dave that the Yukon is the most anonymously styled version of GM's full-size SUVs, it's hard to blend in when driving something this big.

Just got mine today and drove a few hundred miles in it. I'm very impressed with the build quality and features. I'm very accustomed to BMWs and traded in a Mercedes for mine and I can say that GMC has come a long way toward being as good as German options available.

Don't expect the new V4/V8 intelligent engine management to save you much in the way of gas mileage. It really ONLY goes into V4 mode when your foot is completely off the gas pedal. I can't imagine that coasting in V4 mode vs coasting in V8 mode is really all that different. I had hoped that V4 would be used to maintain highway speed, but it just isn't the case.

Buy one, you'll be glad you did.

ok, thats interesting post for me at now
