2007 GMC Acadia Revealed

2007gmcacadia1

If you listen to the news you know GM has some problems, but it certainly looks like the company's products are improving. The all-new 2007 GMC Acadia is the second of three new GM-built crossovers to be introduced. Today the company released a slew of photographs and technical specs for the vehicle.

A first glance at the information reveals this to interested shoppers:

  • The SUV-like crossover is built on a unibody frame instead of a truck frame, improving handling, comfort and the center of gravity as well as providing a more carlike ride.
  • It seats up to eight people, and both the second and third rows fold flat, allowing up to 117 cubic feet of cargo room.
  • The interior follows the blueprint of new full-size SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. That’s important because they have some of the nicest interiors GM has ever made.
  • Estimated mileage for this minivan alternative is 17/25 mpg city/hwy for the front-wheel-drive model and 17/24 mpg for the all-wheel-drive model.

The Acadia will arrive late in 2006. Prices have not been announced yet, but expect a near $30,000 starting point. Click on the link below for more photos of the exterior, interior and cargo configurations.

What is the differnce between this vehicle and the other crossovers GM produces. It is the same thing, over and over again and you are trying to make it sound as if it is cutting edge technology. Even in appearance, they all look the same.

Bob,
This is the second of three all-new, yes totally new from the ground up, 8-passenger crossovers. The Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave are the other two. the OUtlook will be on dealer lots first. Sometime in late summer/early fall.

The interior is similar to the new interior seen on the also all-new trio of truck-based SUVs including the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon.

But because these crossovers don't use a truck frame they have a more car-like ride, lower ride height, more cargo room etc. plus the 17/25 mpg is fairly competitive with other crossovers. Of course they can't tow what the SUVs can.

Still, I can see Bob's point. GM is certainly talking the talk of reducing cross-bred platforms and differentiating brands better. The Outlook/Acadia/Enclave -- not to mention the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade, Malibu/G6 and now the Cobalt/G5 -- show the Detroit guys may not be walking the walk. Look at other related cars: The Accord/TL, Highlander/RX 350, 350Z/G35. With exception to the new Camry/ES 350, they're very well differentiated. Despite amortized costs through shared platforms (the reason any platform is ever shared), the interiors, exteriors and often even the engines are different. Can we say the same for a Yukon/Tahoe or, in this case, an Acadia/Outlook? I don't know.

Well Bob said "cutting Edge technology" and the present tense of " GM produces". The Acadia, Outlook and Enclave will be three of the newest models across the entire GM line-up when they are released.

Don't be confused between these larger 8 person crossovers and the existing smaller suvs (Chevy Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Vue). Sometimes those are also called crossovers but those are older technology, smaller vehicles and seat only 5 people. That's what I was hoping to convey with the last comment. Despite having three vehicles ont he same new platform only the Saturn and GMC products should ride and feel similar. And I think in this case it's smart to offer a cool people mover to saturn folks and the GMC loyalist. Very different shoppers. The Enclave will be much more upscale and closer to cadillac territory. Now if they release a chevy version...

Great looking "package" - I wait with baited breath for proof in the pudding.

Good timing, "boomer wise" for GMC to be bringing the lamda products to market. Have had three new Subs - 95/99/03 - and now nearing empty nest stage looking for alternative "downsized" that still "fits" all our past/current/future "needs" for '07 + next stage of life. Long ways, family and lifestyle wise, from "mini-ute" unit = still like 7 pass/trailer tow/4wldr/comfort level, etall

My wish for the General and other traditional North American manufacturers is that they get up to speed with diesel options. The Asian and European manufacturers could potentially start kicking dirt in the big two (Daimler poised to cash in with Liberty et all alternative fuelsters) graves. . . Close to 50% of non-NA marketplace now burning diesel(?). 2007 "retool" of North American diesel supply = why hasn't the General responded aggresively into small diesel plants for their SUV/light truck segment??

If this vehicle can a) break upside to 18+ mpg, ideally 20+ and b) has bluetooth c) has drop-down side curtain airbags (I am sure it does) and d) has XM radio, and e) has On-Star (should, being a GM product), I will be selling my '05 Acura MDX and absolutely will buy one.

At this point, GM thus a) displaces a traditionally-Japanese auto buyer and brings me back to GM after a long absense and b) I suspect will induce a ton of potential BMW/Acura/Lexus small-SUV buyers to buy American. We've all been just waiting for the right vehicle, and these are my personal criteria above and I believe very close to the silent majority who would love to "BUY AMERICAN" but have never seen a product that can compete w/ the RX or MDX series.

When I saw spy shots of the Enclave I was blown away. Don't forget bluetooth GM...its a cheap $100-$150 implementation, but its value is far greater in terms of utility. Good luck on this series.

P.S. For lack of bluetooth, I am not buying an '07 Avalanche, which would have been my 3rd Avalanche.

I just previewed the Acadia and am extremely impressed. I plan to turn in my Trail blazer mainly becasue of fuel economy. An opportunity to gain an additional row of seats and at the same time gain another 25% in hwy fuel economy is exactly what I have been looking for in a new GM vehicle. Now all I need is pricie and delivery. Looking forward to test drive.

I could not wait to see Acadia in front of my eyes and have a test drive. This is a xSUV that I have been waiting for. I have been looking into the Honda Pilot which has been receiving good reviews with comfort and third row seat space. Acadia spec has more power and more fuel economy. Plus its price is lower compared to Pilot. So, Acadia seems to be the one I definitely want it.

John

do you think that the acadia will have bluetooth and will have a good parking radious? because in the past none of these important specks have been offerd. but if the acadia can offer what my family needs my wife and I will definitly consider buying the acadia.

The Acadia looks great.
I bought one of the first CUV's... the Buick Rendezvous in 2002... it has been a great vehicle.. extremely reliable and extremely low maintenace. I never had tires last any where near 58K before and I never had brakes last any where near 42K before here in the Western Pa hills. I get 23mpg in mostly city driving and the 185hp V6 seems like it shuts off when you come to a stop... you can't feel or hear the engine most of the time. The tranny is the smoothest I've ever owned.
Needless to say... I'd have no problem buying a ACADIA.

I love the acadia, but why would you limit the special quiet design upgrade only to the enclave?

A coworker purchased an Acadia....and all I can say is WOW. I am selling my Toyota Highlander which has not been reliable as I hoped. It seems like American automakers are finally back on track.

we recently purchased an Acadia and we love it. We are loyal GM people but, this by far is the best we have owned. This past weekend we had it in the moutains in Montana. It handles better than our Monte ss. Quiet and smooth great looks and comfort. What took them so long??

We recently purchased a GMC Acadia and it's truly remarkable! Believe all the hype and rave reviews, this is quite possibly the best vehicle GM has ever made. If you haven't had the pleasure of test driving one yourself, GO DO IT. There's a ton of Acadia information, pictures, reviews and more at http://www.acadiaforum.net

Acadia fan

We just recently purchased an Acadia and love it. We'd been wanting to get rid of the minivan for a long time, but with five kids, our options were limited. The Yukons and Tahoes were out of our price range. We actually saw info on the Saturn Outlook and waited almost a year for the cars arrival to see it. We ended up buying the Acadia because though very similar, the front end and the dash boards are different and we prefered the Acadia. We have had a problem with it though. The battery kept dying. We had to jump the car three times. When we took it in, the dealership told us they had three Acadia's waiting for batteries, apparently this new battery they're putting in the Acadias are bad. If you buy one, carry jumper cables with you. I don't regret it though, it's the best car I've ever owned. It's so awesome to drive and looks so sharp. Well worth it. We purchased the base model and had an aftermarket DVD player added, and running boards. Spring for the power seats, I miss them.

Acadia Fan - the battery issue is related to the airbag recall. The sensor that monitors for collisions to deploy the airbag can get confused and not know the car is off, therefore keeping a constant drain on the battery. Once the airbag recall work is performed, the problem will go away. You can find more detailed info on the problem at http://www.acadiaforum.net/forum/index.php?topic=353.msg5129#msg5129

yes, that was definitely perfect! great looking Acadia package, this car would surely hit in the market for the parts equipped herein are of high quality and performs well on the road, from exterior to interior parts, all parts are remarkable, including the Vibrant Cold Air Intake which are truly flexible all the way.

robert

Acadia Fan-What brand/model DVD player did you get? I am doing the same, but my Acadia has the dual skyroofs and there's not much space for the DVD to fit in between.

luis

Its a awsome car i need to buy it now all the reviews and everything makes it sound...... like OMG. GMC really made this CUV right !!!

Loren

Major Acadia Fan - The acadia is like a super cool CUV it is very versitle and has lots of cargo space every where its the right choice for those who want a little more than mini-van performance but still have the comfort of one ..its like OMG Ihave 3 children and this looks like the perfect ride for us !!! Nice JOB GM NICE JOB!!!!!! :)

Carl

We have been seching for a new van for the past 3 months we tryed almost all the vans out there Odessey T&C Quest etc.... none satisfied me the i stumbled across the acadia and it was the most beautiful SUV you ever seen i took a test drive and absolutly delighted my wife , me and my children. It has the space of the mini-vans but has a better handleling than one and the looks a better than most other car in general, I am very happy with my purchase it has great mpg to 18/26 but i get 17/24 but its great still this is the first true GM SUV !!!!

I bought my Acadia in April 07. I had planned to purchase the Acura MDX and test drove nearly 20 different models and vehicles before setting my mind on the Acadia. Let me say this vehicle rides so much better than the MDX. It has MUCH more room in every seat (very important to me with tall kids and friends). The third row also doesnt sit on the liftgate. There is plenty of room for storage even with the third row. I have had a few minor issues with little things like the dash "hide-a-space" not set quite right so it didnt open when pressed, or the gas cap connector popped off and had to be fixed. However, when you look at the overall, these are so minor I could care less. The SUV drives like a dream, my kids and I love it. The liquid engine mounts were important to me (been in an accident before and nearly had the engine in my lap). I have to say, I would take the Acadia SLT over any other crossover on the market and I drove them all, including the Outlook, MDX, Tribeca (GAS HOG), CX9, ML320 just to name a few. Great ride!

Acadia fan from a Cajun in Acadia land: and Yes...Acadia lives up to this Real life Cajun. From the first day that GM announced that it was going to come out with Acadia I knew this was the car I wanted. It had all of the details I wanted in a car. Years ago I got rid of my "Mini van" only because my father said he wanted to see me out of "that big box" but I loved it. Since then, I switched around from new car to new car until I found The Acadia...This is the first one I really loved. Even my son, All of his Friends, and their parents too all love it. This Car has been selling it's self all over Cajun Town over here.

the lease on one of our bmw's is about to expire in two months and my fiance wanted to jump into an X5 or an ML550 and go through the whole vicious cycle once again with another 2-3 year lease... that is, until she saw the GMC Acadia.

I ended up getting her an '08 Acadia SLT-2 with all the trimmings (NAV,Sunroof,19", Passenger DVD, etc.) and am 100% happy with my $44K MSRP purchase ($40K Actual) vs. the $60K-$65K with all the options chosen with the acadia. we've been having some issues with the NAV unit and software glitches, but nothing compared to the nightmare that is the iDrive. We have to replace 3 runflat tires on her BMW and the quote with an alignment is $1750 here in southern california.

The Acadia was feeling underpowered, but putting in 91 octane has made it more responsive to the point of it going with less pushing of the pedal. The Acadia looks small from the outside, but you have to actually sit inside to notice just how much room this sucker has! It feels solid on the road and seems to be very well put. She also test drove the saturn outlook, but we decided to go with the Acadia at the end of the day.

i never thought id own a GMC but this Acadia has grown on me to the point of wanting to trade her cars, heh.

Good job GMC!
