Movie Cars We Missed

Gonein60seconds

Well, the blogosphere has spoken, and what it has to say is this: How could you forget Eleanor? The star of the original “Gone in 60 Seconds” was far and away the car mentioned most by commenters as the car most deserving of a spot on our Top 10 Movie Cars list. To be honest, the 1973 Mustang Mach 1 was on our short list (and a personal fave), but it fell just short. Of the other cars posters say we overlooked, the remaining top seven (in order of support) were:

  • ‘70 Dodge Challenger, "Vanishing Point"
  • ’77 Trans Am, "Smokey and the Bandit"
  • ’32 Ford Coupe, "American Graffiti"
  • BMW 735, "Transporter"
  • '76 AMC Pacer, "Wayne’s World"
  • Audi A8 L W-12, "Transporter 2"
  • Audi S8, "Ronin"

Other cars that received online support can be found below:

  • ’55 Chevy, "American Graffiti"
  • Ford Crown Victoria, "Men in Black"
  • Aston Martin DB2/4, "The Birds"
  • Cab, "Collateral"
  • Lamborghini, "Cannonball Run"
  • 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III, "The Car"
  • 1975 black Mack model RS700 Longnose, "Convoy"
  • Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, "Corvette Summer"
  • 1956 Jaguar XK 140, "Cruel Intentions"
  • General Lee, 1969 Dodge Charger, "Dukes of Hazzard"
  • 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88, "Evil Dead," "Evil Dead II," "Army of Darkness"
  • 1965 AC Shelby Cobra 427, "Gumball Rally"
  • Audi RSQ "I, Robot"
  • Ford GT40, "A Man and a Woman"
  • 1967 Pontiac GTO, "XXX"

Note that the BMW 735 made the list despite the movie it was in. Jason Statham has done far better -- though in my book, a rare Euro-spec 7 Series with (gasp) a shift beats the Tiptronic A8 from "Transporter 2" any day.

I am a photographer and I've been asked to photograph the "Lambo 88" from one of the cannonball runs. Any way I can check the authenticity of this? It sure looks like it.
