Chrysler Cleans Up Pacifica, Adds Muscle
Chrysler bills the Pacifica as considerably restyled for 2007, but we had to look closely to tell the difference. Aside from new hood strakes — Chrysler's term for the thin lines on the hood that are just for looks — and a slightly restyled front end with teardrop headlamps, the wagon-like crossover looks just as frumpy as it did in 2003. The interior hasn’t changed much, which means the pea-sized dashboard controls are here to stay. The big news is under the hood, where a 4.0-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission replaces last year’s top of the line 3.5-liter V-6 and four-speed automatic.
We took the Pacifica for a few laps earlier today at a media event at Chrysler’s Chelsea Proving Grounds. The early verdict is there’s more grunt than the numbers tell. Though Chrysler’s 250-hp, 3.5 liter V-6 was no slouch, it made for modest acceleration when coupled with a four-speed automatic in a vehicle that tips the scales in Ford Explorer territory. This year’s larger V-6 makes 255 hp, but the oomph comes much sooner. That means there’s ample pep without having to stay too long on the gas.
Extra passing power comes thanks to the six-speed transmission, which kicks down a few gears without too much pedal squeezing. The Pacifica actually feels lively now, though there’s still considerable leaning when you push it through a corner. The steering wheel seems heavier and more direct than last year's, but it also requires extra effort in parking lots.
When the 2007 Pacifica hits showrooms in September, engines will include a carryover of the 3.8 liter base engine or the new 4.0-liter. Prices have yet to be announced, but given some new standard features – like an electronic stability system and side curtain airbags – expect a modest hike over this year’s $25,415 base price.

I own A 2004 Pacifica,for the most part it's a great car,front wheel drive and gas is not bad for this size auto..However,the front end noise in the rt. front wheel is unbearable!!!I have had the struts,sway bar bushings(3 times)rack,and lower controle arms changed to no avail...many people are up in arms obut this problem...Chrysler is no where to be found,and I have read Vermont is sewing ,I think they feel it is unsafe!!PLEASE address this with me and your readers..WHAT IS THIS NOISE??? 5 N.Y. Dealers later and still THE NOISE and getting worse!!Thanks in advance G.Fredd
